• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Has anyone found a way to remove the start delay using the ECO button?

Okay maybe I am use to waiting for the screen to show the safety card info, later on I will try to push the eco buton and see if it starts. Thank you for that information.

You're welcome, I was the same but did it absentmindedly one day. Now I don't even look at the display to start it.

I have a 2016 F3 Limited and I DO have to wait😡

No, All F3 are wait free.

Turn the key on and as soon as the gauges sweep (this is also when the can am logo shows up on the color displays) you can press mode, then start. Its about 2 seconds from key on to start.

This works on 2016 and newer RT as well.

It's a stupid delay and serves no function as far as I can see.
Having said that, I've learned to live with it. I start the Spyder, and then put on my gear. By the time I'm done, I can hit the mode button and immediately start the engine.
It's still a stupid delay.
Did I say that the delay is stupid and foolish ?

Just my opinion. I could be wrong, and if I am, I'm sure someone on this site will let me know.

 I have never seen so many people sniveling over something so inconsequential... nojoke

There's a real easy solution: sell the bike, and get something else to be miserable over.

It would not surprise me if BRP installed the start delay under the misguided assumption that we would all be using this extra time to read the safety card.
You mean we don't have to read the card? :yikes: But - but - it says so on the screen! :lecturef_smilie:

Next, you'll be telling me I can remove the tags on cushions and mattresses! :sour:

Society is totally falling apart! :gaah: :roflblack:

Now I find out

So for over 1 year & 2500 miles I've been holding that ECO/Mode button down all the while the safety messages flash across across the screen & NOW I learn all I had to do was push the button once---No wonder it's been a pain in the As*. Gots to love this forum.

YES
There is a way that this can be by-passed and is accomplished via the BUDS.
It is done by bypassing/disabling the security system.
Once accomplished, you turn the key and hit the start. No more DESS errors and instant start.
Hope to have mine "bypassed" at Red Rock Spyder Rally

I know the new police model doesn't have it. It's a real pain to press the eco button & wait for clearance to start the F3's. Sometimes I think I could leave the key in it as most people won't know how to start it. If anyone has mastered removing the start delay--please advise--I have read the warning on the left service panel & while my memory isn't the greatest I don't need that 3-5 second delay.
Thank you kindly for any assistance,
Darrell

I don't think that is correct. You will still have to press the mode button even after the DESS has be disabled. Since you have a 2014 model that means waiting for the message to appear.

Let us know what happens after you have the DESS disabled.

In the UK that would invalidate my insurance - an immobilisor is a requirement. I would have to fit an aftermarket immobilisor to replace the DESS if I disabled it.

Do you have security requirements quoted in US insurance agreements?

I cannot vouch for all states, but in Texas, we call the immobilizer device the ignition key and handle bar lock. If that is not sufficient, a nearby .380 usually is. In reality, the DESS does very little beyond what the bar and ignition lock already does and is easily bypassed.

Went outside to try my early 2015 F3's----Turned on Key, pressed red button to run, put foot on brake, pressed for 1 second the ECO?Mode button & no start---I had to hold the eco/mode button in for 3 seconds---hmmm:banghead:

I totally agree.
TOTALLY
With the advent of key cloning, the only thing the DESS system does is create another failure mode

Why do you even have to Push a "mode" button.:dontknow: Never had a car, truck, bike or ATV (other than a BRP) that had an "mode" button and they all worked just fine. Has BRP ever given a reason for such a dumb control? It's really the only thing I don't like about my Spyder.

An issue to force you to read the safety card so that BRP could CYA. :roflblack::roflblack:

Most of us pre 2015'ers have learned to live with it by doing other stuff for the half a minute or so it takes. We all know the safety card does not get read each time. "We don't need no steenkin safety cards." :roflblack::roflblack:

OK, to work throught that:

1. I never flick the red run switch to turn off the bike. I use the key. So my run switch is already in the on position when I switch on with the key. That may have an impact as you're turing on with the key and then putting the red switch to run. May add a delay?

2. You say you're pressing the ECO switch for 1 second, again that's not required. Just a quick press and release is all that's needed. Then hit the starter.

So to go through the order:

1. Make sure run switch is on
2. Turn key to on
3. Quick press on ECO/Mode
4. Hit starter

It should start immediately.

Holding the mode button for more than a second will activate ECO mode which you may or may not want to use. If you have the green leaf on your dash--you are in ECO mode. It does make the performance change up a bit. You either like it or don't. I don't. My favorite rant--again--I want my automatic trunk release back. Keep your ECO mode. :roflblack::roflblack:
