There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

The Zumo has a Ram Ball mount, Blue tooth, Life time maps.
I have a DIY mount in the center of the handle bars.
Pair the bluetooth with my Cell Phone and Sena in the Helmet
for call announcements and call data.
Also attempting to pair with my XM radio.
I ordered this to replace my TomTom XXL. No more plastic bag needed in the rain.

I installed the Zumo 396 LMT-S on my 2015 RT-S using the center-of-the-bars mount I had already mounted for an older not-motorcycle-specific Garmin Nuvi. In my opinion the 396 is excellent value and has all the features I feel necessary. It's paired with my Sena 20S communicator and works very well with verbal instructions that are as clear as the screen graphics. And the $250 price is excellent as well.

I've got a 396 "Motorcycle GPS" but mine is free standing with a separate non-BRP supplied mount. I do like the mount that came with it though. Works very well on a Ram ball mount. I have it mounted up on my dash mount so it's up in line of sight. It's a nice unit with a couple of querks...

Great to see that other ryders are using the Zumo 396-S LMT gps unit and they are happy with the them.
Just today we purchased 2 of them from the gps store @ $239 a unit and we too are not real happy with the BRP gps system.
Took a 200 mile ride on Thurs afternoon and found that the built in gps was firstly hard to see the screen, secondly couldn't get the voice portion to work through the Sena 20 EVO headsets, plus half way through the trip mine locked up while riding. Figured it was time to look for an alternative and stumbled upon the Zumo 396-S at a great price!
Just hope they install seamlessly.
Just today we purchased 2 of them from the gps store @ $239 a unit and we too are not real happy with the BRP gps system.

Another question for you 396 owners. I wouldn't be hard wiring my power source. I prefer to use a Garmin 12v male power cord as I have a Spydersextras RAM/USB/12v accessory plate installed. Can the mini USB port be accessed for the cord when the RAM ball mounting plate is installed to the back of the GPS? Thx

No it cant. Once it sits in the quick release mount, that micro usb port is covered up.
I just got one of these myself and I switch it between my two bikes. I would love to have a complete second mount for it, but at around 100 for all the parts, I'm a bit of a cheapskate for that. So I wired on a blue sea systems cigarette lighter adapter to the included cord and then just swap the whole unit from the ram ball to each bike that has an ram extension arm. Then I just plug it into the port on the dash.
I can also answer the question about brightness, its plenty bright, even in sunlight. That is where it is better than just using a Nuvi or car based gps.

I thought about buying a $4 12v male plug, but that power cord looks really long between the GPS connection/box on the cord. Approx how long is that portion of the cable ? Thx for your input

It is fairly long, but I coil it up a bit with a cable tie so overall the length is around 12-15 inches which is good enough for either bike I use it on.

I thought that too, no it cant. You would really have to butcher the quick release mount to make it work. The USB will charge it, but not through the included mount.

1. Why not just use your Phone GPS?
2. The GPS Store is 20 minutes from me. I ride the Coast a lot and pass it quiet frequently.
3. I have a magnetic phone mount right in the center of the bar bolts.

As long as those wires supply 12v than you should be good to go.

The USB will power it fine and it will charge the battery. I played with it on that cord a bit before I hardwired the connector that works with the mount to a cigarette lighter adapter.
