Monday 7/01/2024

....Welcome to July 1st Weather News from Indiana. Currently cloudy and some cooler weather this morning @ 55°F. Sure feels good as it has been a very hot the last two weeks.

Hopefully everyone has received the correct amounts of rain. The weather has been somewhat crazy here for us.

Today is going to be 76°F with some sun.
Lows for today should be 56°F.

Stay Healthy and Be Safe. ....

Currently in Vermont it is sunny/ clear & 71 degrees.

This first week of July is looking warm & humid, just like we expect this of the year.

After this delightful Monday, temps will be coming up into the 80's for highs for the rest of the week. Humidity will still be comfortable on Tuesday and much to Wednesday, but it will be turning more moggy, just in time for the 4th, and beyond.

Wednesday will be breezy out of the south as a frontal system heads in our direction for the west. Right now, it looks like the weather for the Fireworks in the a city near the lake will be okay, but just after that, around midnight or thereafter, a batch of showers will come through, and possibly a rumble of thunder or two.

Then that rain should move out in time for the 4th of July festivities and fireworks on Thursday. Friday is also looking good.

Then the coming weekend will feature some rain, but nothing like the downpours that we had this past weekend. And most of the showers that we expect will happen late Saturday into Sunday night.

We started off the month with 90 degrees. Mostly cloudy. High 90's and some showers predicted for the next three days.

We started off the month with 90 degrees. Mostly cloudy. High 90's and some showers predicted for the next three days.

Here in South Oz, we started the month with 90 - mm of rain, solid cloud cover (above the thick fog! :p ) and single digit max temps with lots more rain, downpours, & gale force winds forecast for at least the next week!! They're even forecasting snow down to 700 metres, if conditions are right - we're at a bit over 800 metres, but it's too bloody wet here to snow!! :banghead:

Even here up in the Hills & on our little hill, the ground is so saturated that the new septic holding tanks on all the new development just up the road a bit, so they are all as yet still empty, are floating up out of the ground where they were buried just last month; all the low lying grasses & plants are dying due to their continually soaking wet feet (at least the Red Gums & Stringy Bark's can handle that for a few months!) and the river down the bottom of hill is once again threatening to flood all the lower areas. The poor bugga's trying to work on the new Ambo Station & the upgraded Swimming Centre just downstream a bit from us (and not as far up the hill as we are) are paddling around in mud that's almost feet deep... so not getting much work done! Mind you, the hole they dug for the new Swimming pool is full already, so maybe that's progress??

We had a Frost warning last night, so I covered all my veggies to protect them. When I went out early on (before my usual morning ride) to uncover them, we had a freezing fog and both the measured & 'feels like' ambient temp was still around 0° C, so I left them covered until I got back a bit after 09:00... By then, the temp had risen to about 3°, with a dew point of 3.6°, so I thought I'd take the chance... but all the covers were still solid lumps, with heaps of biiig fat dollops of ice about 5-10mm in diameter scattered frozen all over on top. I think the frost I saw earlier must've thawed juuust enough at around sunrise to puddle & form these big drops, then once the sun was up but hidden behind the fog again, they all froze again! I gave it another hour & almost 1/2 after that before venturing out again, and I've just taken the last of the covers off... I did try to hang the covers out, but they were all still crunchy & bloody heavy, and I don't think they'll 'dry' anyway - more likely 'freeze'!! :yikes: So they're sitting in a heap in the middle of the yard, waiting for someone more motivated to come out & do something with them...

I might just go for another ride... or maybe stay inside in the warm and watch TV?! :p

:chat:...Well folks, the month of JULY is definitely doing it's thing in Indiana. Lots and lots of humidity. Going to be another summer day as the temperatures start to go up. Currently sunshine and 68°F.

High today of 88°F with sunshine and lots of humidity.
Low at 73°F. No rain in todays forecast.

Stay Hydrated and take on the AC.
Ryde if you are able and be Safe. ....

Happy July-tooth! Yesterday I flipped my refrigerator calendar over for the new month. Seems like just a week or so ago that I was buying it at the grocery store. Time does fly!

Right now, it's 106 here in the desert. We expect to top 112 today. The overnight low will be 90. There are a few big puffy clouds floating around but no threat of rain here in the valley. Humidity is at 20%. Definitely a good afternoon to float in the pool.

Side note: When I mention that the greater Phoenix area is in "the valley", the altitude of the valley is 1,400-1,800 feet. The average altitude of Arizona is actually 4,000 feet. We're not just flat sandy desert and cactus. In fact, the southern-most snow ski area in the United State is at Mt. Lemon just outside Tucson. Lots of people have summer retreats in the surrounding mountains where temperatures are much cooler. But those areas are prone to afternoon pop-up thunderstorms and heavy monsoon action almost every day. Seems there is always a trade-off. Stay safe..... Jim

:chat:...Welcome to the 3rd day of July.

'It really is July 3rd, 2024.'

Yesterday's weather was awesome and I was able to get all of my grass cut.
I believe it was a first time for me this year. Anyway they are calling for some rain showers in the afternoon and evening. Things are looking very dry here.
Currently we have cloudy sky and 73°F.

Today's numbers are 84° with a chance of rain.
Low of 72°F. Rain is scheduled.
Humidity is high and is not very friendly.

Stay Safe and be Healthy.
Ryde whenever you get a chance. ....

Lots of areas in the West and South are under Excessive Heat Warnings. I've preached about the danger of heat here before. Please don't underestimate its effect. We had another very unfortunate (and avoidable) loss here yesterday. An out-of-town family went for a short hike. Their 10-year-old boy was overcome by heat and had to be air-lifted to the hospital. He did not survive. That poor family will now have to live with their poor judgement forever.

We topped out at 113 yesterday. Today will be the same. Humidity is currently at 16% and we have a 5 MPH breeze. Nighttime lows are not getting much below 90. My AC is working about 40% of the time during the day. Always happy and relieved each time I feel it come on. Stay safe..... Jim

July 4th

:chat:....Remember to stay hydrated.
Water is your friend. These days of high temperatures and humidity are miserable for everyone. Seems like every 4th of July someone dies because they didn't stay hydrated. .....:dontknow:
Currently we have cloudy sky and 73°F.
Humidity is high at 91%.

Today's high is only 78°F with a chance of afternoon rain showers.
Low of 70°F. Evening rain showers are possible for us.
I didn't get any of the forecasted rain yesterday. We need some rain here.

Enjoy your July 4th and stay Healthy. ....

Gettysburg trip today! 93°F and 50% chance of rain... If I clean my ride before I leave, it will rain. If I don't clean it, it'll be a good weather day... ;)

The weather reports from the desert sound like a broken record! It's HOT! At 10:30 AM it was 102 degrees. No clouds and a 5 MPH breeze. Humidity is 18%. Todays high will be 112+. Getting ready to do a road trip to cooler climates in the next couple of weeks. I am now bike-less for the first time in 50 years so the touring will be done in my little Mustang. Hope to be on the road for a month with lots of visiting family and friends. I have lived long enough to know that time spent with loved-ones can often be the last. Stay safe..... Jim

I like that route. Done it a few times. Once on my Venture.

Saw Close Encounters of the Third Kind on TV the other day.
