• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hi Everyone
I am just wondering... What do yo think about now not having any Vendors here
on the Spyder Lovers Original Forum ? We all know why they are gone from here
Well we are all still out there look for us on the Spyder Lovers FaceBook pages.

Admins: Would there be anything wrong with having a list of vendors along with contact info in a pinned thread? The list would be impartial, not limited to former advertisers.

Something like:

Aftermarket accessories:
BajaRan Phone Website
SpyderExtras Phone website
SpyderPops Phone Website
...

Apparel:

Exhausts:

etc?

We will forward the info to Administrators.

PM sent to Anthony & Lamonster.

The issue was caused by many who did not pay their advertising fees, whether bills were sent out or not. The moderators do not know who those are that did not pay. Personally, I am a no pay, no play advocate.

This is a tough subject and beyond my pay grade level.

since the Advertising was a pay for space type if you want your space, you should pay the price. If you feel it isn't worth the price don't take up the space. If you don't want to pay the price you should expect your space to be taken down, seems pretty simple.

Even aside from any questions about who might've paid or didn't, which is something we don't know and should cease all speculation &/or mention of, the cost in time & effort of managing 'sponsors & advertising' for the site simply became too onerous for the people and the business to support, especially with the other far more pressing things they have to be concerned with right now! nojoke

So Lamonster Garage now pays ALL the operating costs of the site, and we (the members) provide the activity, share the info & knowledge, and make the referrals that keeps the site a going concern! :lecturef_smilie:

I think this needs stated again, remembered, and acknowledged! This site has been a HUGE asset to me. My idea above was just a place to consolidate recommendations for where to get farkles and mods. It was more about the value to us, not the vendors themselves.

So thanks Lamont. Order incoming soon for the magic mirror mounts.

has there ever been a "Donation" button? I belong to other forums and the forum members kick in a small donation each year ($25) to help keep the forum going.

Never been one here, but you can always buy stuff from Lamonster Garage!

Although there is no specific advertising or list on board, if you want to know where to find product X, just put a request up on the site. Anyone with knowledge of product X can easily send a PM to the requestor.

I think, problem solved for now.

My hope is that Lamont gets better and has the time and energy to look at this again. Until then, just best to wait things out. He definitely has bigger issues on his plate right now.

As ARtraveler says. There are work-a-rounds.

So just to be clear, If giving a link, to someone who wants a product, it has to be done through PM?

FWIW, that will be very hard to remember, and decrease the value of this board over the long term.

Example: Where can I find such and such part? (Link to direct part will help all those looking) What cleaner do y'all use? (Amazon links to exact brand/type is helpful.)

I understand no longer giving preferential treatment to one vendor over another, but if a link or links answers someone's question, that's very valuable to me as I research new topics.

That's just my $0.02, worth even less after taxes.

You can provide a link, Allen, just not an advertorial, if you want to do anything much more than add the link & a few words of explanation, you will need to go to PM - but for your 'public pages' posts, the 'No non-sponsor advertising' rule still applies, only we don't have any 'sponsors' or 'vendors' as such left! :lecturef_smilie: . However, those who were sponsors have been allowed to continue with their previous 'advertising' practices, so you'll still see links & promotions, vids, etc from some of them.

But, as has been mentioned, the way ahead on this is a work in progress and the final policy is still under consideration; here's a quote of the 'draft policy' we are working on for now - direct from the 'No longer any Sponsors Advertising on SpyderLovers!' thread which is also in this sub-forum...

(this is the thread - the quote below is post #17 - https://www.spyderlovers.com/forums...nger-any-Sponsors-Advertising-on-SpyderLovers! ;) )

Further to the info conveyed by post #2 above, here's the policy/process we are running with for now:

"With the closure of the Forum's Sponsorship, Lamonster Garage is now completely funding the site, so in the interests of fairness to the Owner/Operators of this site, but also in order to still allow the Forum and Members to help out other Members, there will continue to be some Advertising permitted, but only as follows:

If you own or operate a site providing goods or services to other SpyderLovers Member's, you are allowed just ONE link to your site IN YOUR SIG LINE - this does not mean every employee at your business can join & include a link to the same site, it's a One Appearance Only thing, and you will benefit by having an active presence on the Forum as it will appear at the bottom of each of your posts - but be warned, as for all members & posting behaviour, frivolous posts or blatant 'post padding' posts will be removed without notice & possibly treated as spam with the consequent penalties.

If you are not a Spyder/Ryker related business owner or operator, but wish to recommend a useful product or a helpful site to other members, you are allowed to add ONE link to a post/thread referring to the particular product, but it needs to be either in the form of a recommendation of where to get something in response to another Member's request, or in a REVIEW post/thread; either way, members can post just ONE link to the product OR the supplier's site in their original recommendation or review post."

This may well be a (very) short term &/or interim thing, or it may become enshrined with the rest of the Forum Rules at some stage in the future, but all that depends very much on how the Owner feels about it as & when he can get to review it, but he has far more important things on his mind right now! So, in the meantime, none of the other Forum Rules have changed, and the quote above outlines how we, the Mod Team, will be managing 'advertising' and the posting of 'advertorial' links &/or reviews going forward from now until further notice.
