Today, here in Vermont we had sunshine, cloudy skies, and temps in the 40's.
Today was the calm before the storm, because the weather will be changing quickly. We will be seeing clouds moving in later this evening ahead of a quick moving round of snow showers. The showers will be moving into the area around 10PM EST, with some heavier snow showers around midnight. Minor accumulations in the higher elevations of anything from a trace up to 2" are possible.
Then by Friday morning the skies will be dry, and they'll clear up with a good amount of sunshine and highs in the mid 40's. But the sun won't last long, clouds will be moving in for the afternoon and evening, ahead of a system that will be bringing wet and wintry weather for the weekend.
Snow and ice will be moving in late Friday night and continuing overnight into Saturday morning. On Saturday, we will have HEAVY snow and ICE, bringing potentially hazardous road conditions. The more Northern areas will be seeing the heaviest of the snow, the Northeast Kingdom (near the Canadian Border) could see up to 8" inches of snow, while most other Northern areas will likely see 3"- 5" inches. The Adirondacks, Lower Champlain Valley, Central Vermont, and Upper Valley are likely going to see the most ice accumulations, with up to a quarter of an inch possible.
They have also issued Winter Weather Advisories in effect from 8PM EST Friday until 2PM EST Saturday for the North Country and all of Vermont except the 2 Southern Counties. They have also issued Winter Storm Watches in effect from Friday evening through Saturday night for Northern New Hampshire.
The snow and ice will taper off a bit Saturday evening, but the road conditions will remain slippery throughout the night. Rain and mix will continue in Southern Vermont and slowly move North again overnight.
For Sunday morning, more mix will be moving through, and we could see a bit more snow. For the evening, the precipitation will be transitioning over to rain, and continuing overnight into Monday.
Monday afternoon could see some breaks in the rain or lighter showers. Highs will be reaching into the mid to upper 50's. But the last round of rain will move through overnight Monday into Tuesday, and the temps will be dropping after the rain passes. For Tuesday, the temps drop back into the 40's, but we should see some sunshine.
