Dogs and bears don't mix. In an area where bears are sighted, best to carry long range pepper spray or better yet, long range wasp spray. It has a range of 40 feet and works great at deterring attacks. I read the one comment from one woman who said the bears should be moved to a national park. Hate to tell her but it was there territory first.

thought this was headed to another alligator story. Lived in Fla three time west east and central and never heard about bear problems..snakes and gators (animal type) all the time..:yikes:

People in the area need to start placing their trash in bear-proof containers . . . lots of places, people put the trash cans in chain link enclosures. If the bears can't get to the trash, they eventually stop coming to neighborhoods. If there isn't food, they go elsewhere. If there are many reports of problems, the state needs to be moving or culling them. The safety of people should be the priority.

Ranger at Glacier said pepper spray is good, but the best defense is a 22 pistol and a buddy. When the bear comes at you shoot your buddy in the knee and then run like heck.:joke:
