Windshield Vent

I want to cut down the windshield on my 2014 RTL this winter and add an adjustable air vent in it. The Honda Gold Wing vents seem to be the most available and used vent out there. I would like to put in a chrome one so that limits the selection of models. There have been numerous posts about installing them and how they function. What I am trying to find out is how well they fit the curvature and thickness of the RT windshield. And what Honda model they were originally made to fit. If there is an other helpful information or warnings about windshield strength please include that also. I want to make sure I do not ruin a expensive windshield. Thanks---

My experience :-
A few months ago I put the Goldwing vent in the stock 2015 RTL shield. I found that the top edge of the vent could only be fitted 10" down from the top edge of the shield. Any lower and there would have been a problem with the curvature of the shield.
The thickness of the shield posed no problem for the vent.

10" up seems pretry high. Don't have my bike right here to check. The post earlier showed a GL1500 vent being used. What model did you use?

I cut out a template that I traced from the back of the vent.

After applying painters tape to the area I needed to cut on the shield, I transferred the template to it.

Drilled 1/4 inch holes at the inside corners of the template, enough to fit a jig saw blade into.

I bought "jigsaw blades for polycarbonate" and cut inside the template "lines", finishing off with emery paper to "size it"

The Honda GL1800 vent fits lower on the F4 custom windshield. The curve of the F4 shield must be a little less. I bought one that is regular OEM height, but they also sell shorter windshields with the vent already installed. Not as cheap as doing it yourself, but F4 makes a very beautiful and functional scratch-resistant windshield. Well worth the money, IMO. This post shows a picture of mine.

Now I have the tinted CalSci shorty, the stock shield sits unused -- probably will for a good while.

I have a 25" Spyder RT windshield with the factory vent for sale. You could cut it down. $175.00 + shipping.

Went for a ride today to take in the last foliage views in my area. I put apiece of tape on the windshield 10" down to see if it got in my view. Not a problem. Only time you look that low is if you are maneuvering in a parking lot. I want to put the chrome one in so it will be impossible to see thru and that had me concerned. At parking lot speed I can deal with looking for large holes and the such even with it blocking some view. Can always put the windshield down if I have it up.

I would put the vent in and try it for awhile before cutting the windshield, after the vent is in you may not need to cut the windshield

I wanted to cut down the windshield maybe a inch or two so I won't be looking thru the edge as much when it's all the way down. I still haven't made up my mind on that yet.
