Windshield for RT: Calsci vs F4?

Hello all,

I don't really like the wind on my arm/shoulders while riding at highway speed so I am considering a wider windshield for my 2015 RT. I'm researched the F4 Wide w/vent and the Cal-Sci. I think both are the same width. The main difference seems to be the F4 with the GL1800 vent or the Cal-Sci with the open vent.

Also, the Cal-Sci is only $230 while the F4 is $395.

Questions...

- Any feedback on customer experience with either company?
- Is the GL1800 vent worth the $165 difference?

PROs/CONs?

Thanks!

LARGER WINDSHIELD

Just a thought , since the windshield arm on the RT routinely breaks, if your Spyder is under warranty, make sure you put the OEM one back on before you take it to the Dealer for a Warranty claim.........because if you don't the BILL is going to be about $700 + ...................Or you can buy " noboots " aluminum one ( about $160 )....and not worry.........good luck..........Mike

Is the Cal-Sci scratch resistant like the F4? From what I have seen the scratch resistance of the F4 is real, not hype. That alone may well be worth the price difference. Also, the F4 vent will close to block off cold air. Does the Cal-Sci?

I have no experience with the F 4, I do love the Cal Sci. Customer support has been very good. Vent, even in cold weather has never been an issue for me.

F4 here

I got the F4 because my wife is 6' tall and is sitting higher than me anyway. I did not know about the other one. We have no complaints about ours

if all you want is a wider windshield (not taller) then get the Big Bike Parts one. It is the same height as the OEM and has the vent cutouts. Value Accessories(a site sponsor) sells it. Shop around, sometimes other vendors have it on sale. It's less expensive that the Cal-Sci.

The cal sci is cheaper. The F4 is better; scratch resistant, and stronger. Your choice, but the F4 vent works better. Come to a gathering of Spyders, and see them in person.

I put a CalSci on one of my Beemers and loved it. I was very happy with both the windshield and the company. I put an F4 on my RTL and love it. I am very happy with the windshield and the company. So I think you will do fine whichever way you go. One thing I really like about the F4 is being able to use Windex and a clean paper towel to clean it with no fear of scratching. I bought the F4 at Spyderfest. If CalSci had been there, who knows? They are both excellent, but the proprietary hard coating on the F4 is pretty amazing.

I have the F4 with vent installed on my RT. It works excellently to minimise the turbulence for me and she who must be obeyed (SWMBO). Their service was first rate, and it only took 20 minutes for us to install ourselves. Great piece of kit

After further research the F4 is made out of Polycarbonate while the Calsci is made out of plastic. It sounds like the Polycarbonate is a legit material and the "scratch resistance" is real.

For the people that have the Calsic....have you noticed any scratches? Also, does the open hole push through cold air when the weather turns chilly?

Interesting. If you go in with a different windshield will the dealer try to say you (the rider) caused the problem?

That IS a good question...
Throw the oem windshield in a closet, and be prepared to bolt it back on... :D

Mike... Good catch!

If the F4 can be had without the vent for a cheaper price buy it that way then install the vent yourself. You can get it from JCWhitney for about $50.00

F4

The good thing about the F4 with the vent is that by the time the giant grasshopper goes thru the grill work inside the vent it is cut into bite size pieces!

:lecturef_smilie:....The thing with WARRANTIES is ...if you add or make a change it " COULD " effect your warranty.....not ALWAYS .....BRP has to prove what you did caused the DAMAGE / FAILURE etc.........If you put a WINDSHIELD on your Spyder that has ( say ) 25 sq. inches more surface and that ARM breaks ........Well BRP would have a case to DENY giving you A $ 700 + free fix under warranty..............I don't know why I bothered with this info ....you are only one of three who noticed............well the others might remember my post if they get tagged for a $ 700 + BILL....just sayin....Mike
