Windshield. F4 or Madstad? Vent or not?

I’m thinking about getting a different windshield for my 2017 F3 Limited as the buffeting from the stock windshield gets tiresome on freeways at high speeds. FYI, I’m 6’2”. I’ve looked at both the F4 and the Madstad. Pros and cons on each? Also, what is the real benefit of having a vent besides letting some air though? Do the vents have any effect on the buffeting effect? Thanks for all responses.

We bought a 25" from F4 Customs with no vent and are very happy with it. You are right the stock windscreen is junk. I ride with two up a lot and it is much better in so far as wind, and quality is very good too. We have it on a 2017 F3 Limited ........... for what it's worth.....Polly

WINDSHIELDS

Windshields are like car tires and oil for the Spyders. Everyone has their favorite. I have a Madstad on my F3S and really like it. The advantages are that it is adjustable up and down and forward and backward.

I found out that Show Chrome makes a windshield as well. For only $179, it is almost 1/3 the price of the F4. That is the one we are getting.

I put the F4 customs 25 inch on my 2018 F3 limited and I love it. Blocks a lot of the wind and makes the ride much more enjoyable. Almost got the madstad, but just wasn't quite big enough to block the wind like I needed.
But as always these things are personal preference. But for me it's the F4

Watching this thread with interest as a windshield will be our next upgrade after we get the passenger backrest issue sorted out.

I did a bunch of research before buying an F4 recently. Made my decision based on feedback and recommendations from others on this forum, in addition to looks, functionality, mounting hardware, etc.

Like others have said, people will think good or bad about the same exact product. It's all about what works for you and suits you best.

Hope that helps.

What size did did you get? Vent or non-vent?

32-inch tinted model for my 2018 FS-3. Just put it on, haven't ridden with it yet due to the rain the past few days in Texas, but sitting on it shows me that I can easily see over the top of the windshield by several inches. I am 6'2" tall with the riding pegs and brake pedal in position 5 (the forward most position).

You can't get a vent on the F4 for the F3 and F3-s models, only on the Limited and Touring versions.

While I'm not too keen on how the vents look, I wish I had one on mine. As it is right now I've had the shield off most of the summer due to the extreme heat. Put it back on recently as things cooled down and a trip is coming up soon.

I'd go for the vent if you can.

Madstad

The Madstad is naturally vented. I allows a small amount of air under shield to break negative pressure behind shield to eliminate buffeting. I am 6’5” tall and use the 24” (SPL order). Love the adjustability.

The F4 also has 'natural' venting from underneath.. but that's not quite the same as a vent in the middle that you can adjust to cool yourself down.

Agreed... The F4 is also adjustable up and down by a few inches, so you can raise to the upper position to get more air under the windshield and to the rider.

On which F3 model is the F4 shield adjustable by a few inches, Rocketman? It is most definitely NOT adjustable on the F3-Limited, which is what Bballistick is asking about. It just bolts straight into the stock shield brackets. You need the Madstad with its adjustable brackets to get up/down and/or forward/back adjustment.
