Windshield. F4 or Madstad? Vent or not?

On which F3 model is the F4 shield adjustable by a few inches, Rocketman? It is most definitely NOT adjustable on the F3-Limited, which is what Bballistick is asking about. It just bolts straight into the stock shield brackets. You need the Madstad with its adjustable brackets to get up/down and/or forward/back adjustment.

Hi Pete. I have an F3-S and it is adjustable on that model. I overlooked the mention of the Limited in the original post.

Lamont's windshield

I just looked at the windshield that Lamont sells and it looks really good at a great price. Does anyone know what size my wife would need for her F3 Limited. She is 5' 4" tall. She just wants to get the 19" in medium grey, but I am concerned about her being able to see through it at night. She definitely wants the darker tint.

Ahhhhh. Makes sense.....thanks Rocketman. I was spoilt having one on the Victory Vision. I wish they had one on the Limited.;)

The generally accepted measure to see over the top but have minimal buffeting is to use a straight edge horizontally from your wife’s top lip to a point where the top of the windshield would be. Then measure vertically from that point to the top of the dash and ask Lamont for a screen that matches that measurement.......BUT.....I think Lamont’s screens have a lip that deflects the air higher than normal. So if your wife gets a lipped screen at the height determined, she should be able to see over it, as well as having great protection. Lamont or Jacob should be able to tell you exactly what you need if you have that base vertical measurement, bscrive. ;)

Hi folks, thanks for all of the positive comments about the F4 Customs windshields. Thought I would post these video's that may help those that are interested.
Thanks
Don

Based on everyone’s comments and especially the sister thread by AMCVAY1979, I decided to get the 19” light gray tint windshield from Lamonster Garage. The price was excellent, no tax and free shipping. I saved over $150 over the comparable windshield from Madstad and F4. It’s supposed to be delivered next Monday. I’ll let everyone know how it works for me. Thanks to everyone for all the useful comments.

California Scientific Wind Screens

I have a new 2018 F3-S and need a touring windshield so I can hear the headset in my helmet. I've looked at all the options (I think), except the Show Chrome windshield someone mentioned.
I've ridden motorcycles for many years and found that the only adjustable windshields I ever adjusted were the electric ones on the BMWs.

Anyway, no one has mentioned the California Scientific windshield, which is half the price of the F4. The reviews of the CalSci windshields are excellent. The design data is excellent, which no one else shares on their websites. Most of them won't even tell you whether you are getting coated poly-carbonate crap or acrylic. The size choices are much more extensive than any other manufacturer. They use DOT acrylic, have a great warranty, return policy and owners say they are super quiet!
Is there a problem making everyone avoid them?

I am 6’4” and use a 24” Madstad on my ‘17 F3L. Have had a number of Madstads on many bikes, always very high quality. And they don’t look like a screen door on front of bike. Website doesn’t have 24” but you can contact company for spl order. Same price as 22”. IMHO gent is unnecessary with Magstad because they allow som air under screen. And vents cause noise when open and don’t look dry appealing... again IMO.

I wonder whether the CalSci would look like a screen door on the front of the bike. Have you seen one on a Spyder?
Madstad would be my choice, if not the CalSci screen.

I tried the California Scientific windshield for my F3 and my experience was not great. The website data sold me too. I talk to them on the phone to order and I was still sold. However, when received the shield I was very disappointed in the cheap plastic mounting brackets (yes, they look metal in the pictures). The windshield itself looked OK but the fit and look of the mount sucked(IMHO).
Then, when in decided to take advantage of their return policy, I called them and they put up a huge stink before they finally agreed to the return. Then it took nearly 2 months, multiple calls and lots of excuses before in finally got my refund! Quality and service is everything!

I just put F3 28” vented on my 18 f3 base, love
It, picked it for how it mounted, it allowed me
to keep the gauge faring on bike . F4 fit over the
Gauge faring, yes it moves up / down a few inches.
I have also changed out right side control head
adding cruzcontrol..

i have a f3 non vented on my bike...didn't think i needed a vent with the large opening at the bottom of the shield. great windshield

I did my research on windshields after I bought my 2017 F3. I looked at all the manufactures and weighed the plus and minus of all screens. I came from a RTS to the F3 back in April and knew right off that the stock shield was not going to work for me. Just too short of a screen since I'm 6'2" and was getting a lot of wind on chest and head. Cause I was not sure what size screen I would need for touring purposes. I went with Madstad 22" because of the adjustability it had. I didn't want to buy a screen that had no adjustment and find out after I bought it that it wasn't the right height. That's what I love about the Madstad. On hot days you can adjust it so you get more air flow and then turn around on a cold day adjust it to block most of the air around you. All brackets are made of steel, not plastic. So Madstad gets my vote on a quality built windshield.

I've got a Madstadt on our F3S and its awesome! We've got Schuberth c4 helmets with the sc1 communications system and have no problem hearing them.

Has anyone tried the 7JUROCK, I bought the 27", easy install using the stock brackets. Looks good and works for me. Under $200 on eBay.

I had the 25" with the flip on top on my 15 RTS. Was very nice at keeping buffeting off my head.

Why do you say polycarbonate is crap? If anything, it's far stronger than acrylic.

FYI I'm using a vented F4 21" screen on my F3L. It's polycarb, and very good.

hi rhill16 did you have any problem mounting the f4 windshield over the gauge faring did it have enough room ?
