• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Has anybody had an occasion when strong gusty winds buffeting the front end sent the bike into LIMP MODE? This happened to me yesterday on the I-15N in Fontana, CA. I just stopped, pulled my key, cleared the code with 3 off/on's of the switch and went on my merry way with no further ado. This has happened once before in high winds in another location.

I can honestly say though that being in the fast lane in heavy traffic in high winds and suddenly go into LM is NOT my idea of fun. :gaah:
 
If the Spyder went into limp mode, it should have left behind a telltale code that can be retrieved and read with BUDS. Your dealer should at least be able to tell you what system triggered the fault. Whether that is happening as a result of a defect or is some sort of newly discovered design waekness, remains to be seen, but as far as I know the problem hasn't been reported before. I suspect it is being caused by a mismatch between the steering torque sensor value as you steer to compensate for the wind, and the steering angle sensor, which says you are going straight. Have the dealer make sure all the steering sensors are zeroed with the steering carefully placed at center.
 
Rode in strong winds in West Texas before. Didn't have any problems with the head-winds. The cross-wind gusts were strong enough to put me in the other lane. Nanny didn't say a word...

Wow! I'm REALLY impressed with your explanation Scotty. Since I have to take the bike in for the box recall I'm sure they will be doing this. Right?

They should definitely recalibrate your steering components when they install the new DPS unit. If they don't, then you will probably have problems very quickly afterwards.
 
It may sound silly, but make you are not touching the brake pedal "to be ready to brake" in the wind. It does not take much to go in limp mode, know from experience. The other are probably more rigfht and the dealer should make sure.

I haven't had that problem, but did have issues in even moderate winds before the DPS was changed and I got the EVO sway bar.
Still, take Scotty's advise and get it checked out. Good luck.

They will if they do the recall correctly, but it wouldn't hurt to mention the problem to make sure they do it carefully and thoroughly. They may have a better explanation than mine, too.
