• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Dans Rock/Mount Storm Loop

I did a loop out to Dans Rock and Mount Storm today for 302 miles with a fast out from Frederick on 70/68, Up to Dans Rock Overlook near Frostburg, then on to Mount Storm Lake. Enjoyed the ride back in on Corridor H a very underutilized highway with high vista views and high bridges provide a fun run back towards the east and route 600 provides a nice bypass to all of the traffic around I-81 on the way back into Frederick.

I had something weird happen on the way down from Mount Storm, I was riding very spiritedly coming back down the mountain. Let's just say the nanny was dropping the throttle on me again due to speed. But as I was hitting the transitions on one of the bridges I think I caught some air and really upset the ECU. I got a limp home message and the check engine light came on but no other codes. Luckily with how fast I was moving and the grade I was able to coast it in to a pull off and shut it down but I still didn't see any codes being displayed, just limp home and a check engine light. I gave it a hail mary, shut it down, then pulled the key out and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Put the key back in and it brought the limp home message back up then cleared itself. Not sure what exactly happened that upset it so much, but I'll see if I can pull up the codes in the morning.

No active codes, I really need to buy myself a copy of BUDS so I can see occurred faults. I hooked up with torque lite on my phone and I don't see anything abnormal.

If the Nanny was making repeated throttle interruptions for whatever reason (and it could've just been a little rear wheel spinning each time, or maybe the yaw sensor being triggered due to the centrifugal forces?? The VSS light may also have been giving you micro-flashes as this went on, did you notice any?) you might have just had too many of them within a short space of time! This can happen, prompting the Nanny to decide that something's wrong and getting it somewhat more upset than just a quick throttle cut &/or VSS Light, so she gave you the Check Engine Light (cos it's used as a 'catch all' warning when the system can't work out what's wrong!) and the 'Limp Home Mode' cos it was clearly something to do with safety & driveability. :cautious: Do you really need to ask how I KNOW this can happen?!

This might help you (or maybe just other readers??) but in my experience, those quick throttle cuts occur because the bike's stability &/or directional control is being pushed a little, and there's often a slight brake application associated with them as well as that flash from the VSS light. After talking to a few other Spyder Ryders with far more skill and experience than I've got in order to work out how I might do things better in my Spyder riding, I've found that I can ride beyond those limits without prompting any Nanny intervention if I move my weight around on the bike a bit more, bracing with my outside foot and only pulling on the inside handgrip & leaning in as if to kiss that wrist (without pushing on the outside handgrip - cos too much leverage up high from doing that upsets the Nanny even earlier! 😖) and getting/keeping my weight in and down thru the corner. And most importantly, working to keep things SMOOOOTTTHHH! (y)

I wasn't watching my gauges too much as I had an SUV who was trying to keep up with me and I was keeping my eye on them and road conditions ahead of me instead of the gauges with the speed I was at.

Thanks for the advice and I'll keep an eye on it in the future.
