• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

why I love California

When I was kid in 1965 my big sister moved to California.

Being Pennsylvania born and raised I could not understand the optimism that was reflected in her short phone calls back home.
Having only basic secretarial skills she rode the opportunity wave to a salary that was 4 times what my hard working father had ever made in the shop.

I spent about a month each summer for the next seven or eight years in California.
It was an amazing place.

JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory-)
HP Hewlett Packard
Apple Computer
The Beach Boys and their endless summer

And thousands of other enterprises that were created by people who did not think like people in the rest of the country.
Of course there were jokes.
California, the land of Fruits and Nuts.

I loved that place and that time.
Optimism.
Anything was possible.

Where and why has it all gone wrong?

Washington DC for number 1 and look at who the people of Cali have elected over the years, like Gov Moonbeam. Surfs up Dude!

Not only have they elected "Moonbeam" ..... they have elected him AGAIN (after a roughly 15 to 20 year absence from the governors office)! :yikes:

California is my "home" state as I was born and raised there (just south of San Fran). Been in TX since 1990 and can honestly say I don't miss living there. IMHO, California is a great place to visit but it is a terrible place to live.

All the best ..... Ann

PS Apologies in advance to those that do not hold my "high" opinion of the state.:D

Where and why has it all gone wrong?[/QUOT. you really have to ask it's pretty clear what's wrong you can't regulate and tax all the producers to death and open your arms to everyone who hates you and what you stand for cut off all natural resource use have massive welfare state and expect it all to just be happy happy

Also one of the biggest culprits in California's general decline is implementation of the "open primary." My mother still lives there and this is how she relates the "new" primary system in the Golden State:

  • All voters can vote for any candidate on the ballot.
  • All candidates are listed on a single ballot (no more "party" ballots) with their party affiliation.
  • The top two vote getters move on to the general election (ignoring party affiliation).

Thus, it is quite possible (indeed, probable) to have two candidates from the SAME party on the general election ballot. Note that this change was implemented before "The Governator" was elected, and arguably, could have played a roll in his win.

In the end.....

It is still a great place to be.... I lived in Peru, NY, Peru, FL, CO, Peru, MT, FL, TX, Peru, TX, CA, FL, CT ( and never in the same place twice..I will not go back) and in the end ended up in CA. I live on the border with mexico ( when we ryde out the back our phones go to roaming and welcome us abroad..nojoke) so if something goes wrong I can always pop across the border...and I speak the language..:roflblack: I also have an inexhaustable supply of ammo, if defense is nessesary, as long as slingshots are used...:roflblack: Have loved all the places I have lived and they all have their issues but home is where I hang my hat/helmet....

At least it's not Texas!:roflblack: There is no decline in California! Out of all 50 states, it is still Number 1. Best Ryding weather ever all year round, great friendly people, the BEST wines in the world! The most varied geography of all 50 states. So there is no where else in this country that can hold a candle to California!:yes::yes:

I think California is a great place to visit. But I haven't been there in about 20 years.

If you want to learn more, read Victor Davis Hanson. He's a classicist and military historian who grew up on a farm in California's interior. He still farms there and describes how his area has declined to abject poverty with irrigation water having been cut off, etc. Yet there's a golden belt of wealth along the coast that most people associate with the state. People there keep voting for environmental measures that won't affect them and to limit housing so their properties' values never of down.

Yes, Texas is not for everyone. We prefer not be regulated to death, for example we can buy a motorcycle from out of state and not have to worry that the DMV won't let us bring it in because it doesn't meet the state EPA standards.

When you consider the whole state of California versus Florida, I would have to say that Florida probably has you beat on best riding weather year round, several states have good wines, including Texas, Texas is also fairly varied in terrain, and I have found very friendly folks in all 50 states (might be stretching it just a tad for NY and NJ).

We did enjoy riding in California, and will be back again.

The BEST place to ride...

...is the place that you're heading toward, with a set of handlebars in front of you! nojoke

Debating where the best riding might be, is just like arguing over "Blondes, versus Brunettes, versus Redheads".
The correct answer is simply: "Yes!"
