There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Why hasn't BRP/Can Am looked at a Full automatic transmission for Spyders?

Just curious anyone know why they haven't looked at fully automatic transmissions for the Spyders? it doesn't seem to far a stretch to change over the SE5/6 to give full auto.

Luvin it!!

After crashing my Harley into a guard rail in 08, I lost the lower part of my left leg and crippled my left forearm so that I cant use a clutch. I thank GOD for the spyder so at 62 I can continue doing what I love.

I would hate to lose control on the upshifting (and occasional downshifting available to the SE).. Fully automatic would be a drag.... At that point I would probably go back to an SM . the beauty of the SE is that it offers the best of the standard and the automatic

I think I heard that BRP didn't put in a full-auto because they didn't want the Spyder to be considered in the same class as a scooter.

Have a GS SM5.

Demo rode an automatic transmission Boss Hoss trike. Was odd how often you had to use the brakes. Can see the need to change the brake pads more often...

That aside, it was a fun ride!

There has been some talk about going with a CVT type transmission. There does appear to be some pro/con arguments for the same.

At first, I thought CVT would be a pretty good idea. Now, I kind of like the idea of being in control of the upshifts. A :spyder2: with a CVT would not be a game changer for me. I am quite happy with the 2014 at this point in time.

Hondamatic...!!

comes to mind. I feel it would kill the spyder, like shoes on a dog. But thats just me. The semi still gives you control though I have never tried one have ryden with those that have them. I am a manual ryder and always will be...have to ask..what would be the advantage..?? :dontknow:

:agree:

I'd take a continuously variable transmission instead of the SE. :2thumbs:
 Have you ever changed the drivebelt on an ATV? Belts are the backbone of most currently available CVT trannys, and BRP has tons of experience with them...
They don't last forever, they do throw dust and debris, and they can be burned-up by continued hard launches

Post above mentions Hondamatic. Full auto on (I think) a 750cc and a 450cc. Rode the 750 a few miles and said, no thanks. Do not remember many people buying them.

I am one of the few that owned a 1976 750 Hondamatic. Latest and greatest of course.

I also did not like it and rode it very little. You just clicked the tranny into drive and turned the throttle. It wound out just like a jet engine. Got a few looks at first, but it turned out to not be my favorite machine.

We had several of those "Slush-Drve" Hondas hanging around in our Town back about thirty years' ago...
I had a chance to try out a 400, and a 750.
NO engine braking whatsoever... they coasted like rocketships! :D

I spoke with a very nice french speaking woman from BRP at the NYC Motorcycle Show. I asked her if fully auto would be coming and she told me a definite no.

Took ten minutes on my Outlander and I always carried a spare and the small number of tools required in the tool kit.

Still wouldn't want one on my Spyder though as the clutch take-up was far too harsh - the Spyder is so, so much smoother.

I'm sure there's a lot that love there SE5 but just can't get myself on one , just love the manual control and in my eye that's what a bike should be, but it's a great thing if you have a problem not being able to shift one. Better to have a SE then nothing at all!
