Let me throw my 2¢ (USD) in. You asked if an extended warranty is useful. My answer is an unqualified yes, if you need it. Believe me, you'll thank your lucky stars that you went for it. I have an extended warrant on my 2018. It needs a repair that was quoted at $954.00 (USD), $1,213 (CAD). My warranty covers the whole thing minus a $50.00 USD deductible.

Option A should pretty much cover everything you want that Option B already comes with, but it looks like you're only paying a few thousand more for it. In the meantime you can add the other stuff as time/funds allow. And don't forget Option B won't come with any warranty, extended or otherwise. If I were in your shoes, I'd jump on Option A.

Inspector Gasket black anodized lower belt guard. "C" clamp it to the bottom of the swingarm, it already has three predrilled guide holes. Then use the three supplied self-taping metal screws to attach it, and you are done. Simple, simple, simple. $35.00 if I recall.

New, Used or Demo

Everything has it's limitations. If money is not a issue then I would go with a New Spyder.
Money a little tight I would be happy with a quality used Spyder.
First thing you need to decide is how much $$ do you have to spend on your Spyder.
Once you have that number, start your search.
Check out the 'For Sale' Spyders on this Forum. Good Deals come up time to time.

Definitely check out the Spyder and Do your homework.
My Tip: Buy what you can afford.

I am a two-wheel motorcyclist at heart and still have a pair of older Ductati Multstrada sport tourers...and a big KTM dirt single for gravel road fun. But I also have a 2009 Spyder RS/GS and a year ago I purchased a new 2021 Spyder RTL.
I have had the 09 RS/GS for 5-6 years and truly enjoy riding it, especially with my wife on board, and also solo as well.

The 2021 RLT is a huge upgrade on every aspect over the old bike. Heated seats, front and rear, heated grips, and also heated passenger handrails, plus great wind protection and a quiet ride that doesn't need earplugs to defeat the noise generated by the factory windscreens on the old Multistradas. Great comfort and protect for one-up or, two-up. Handling is vasty better, stock, on the new Spyders vs the older units as well.

Your option A, the demo bike was listed as "a 2021 demo bike with 900 km and no extras. 2021 Can-Am SPYDER RT 1330 ACE SE6
CAD $25,789.00, before taxes. This is the bike I test rode. Was this an RT, and RTL, or an F3 version?

If it was my money, I would pass on the 2016 RTL. It may be a great bike, and has a few options you desire, but its only a few thousand less than the 2021 demo, and five years age and 40K kilometers down in use. Can Am has made some nice improvements in the RT/RTL platform in 2020+. Some of those improvents also made it to the 2020+ F3T and F3L.

For me, a motorcylist for 50+ years, the sit up, legs below me sitting position of the RT or RTL or more preferable than the "cruiser style" position of the F3T/L bikes, and at six ft height, the wind protection if VASTLY better, stock, on the RT/RTL bikes vs the F3. Same applies to wind protection for your hands.

If you can afford the price and the wait, a 2022 of your choice would be ideal, but, the option A, if you like it, sounds serious of consideration.

First of all, once again, thanks to all of you who took the time to answer!

Yesterday morning I wanted to take the plunge and buy the demo model.

I was very much torn between the 2016 and the demo model, because a) the second hand bike had all the extras I wanted but could not justify to buy straight away for the demo model and b) the argument that initial issues with new bikes have been ironed out over time also made me lean towards the second hand bike.

On the other hand… 41000 km versus 1000 km, no warranty versus full warranty… upgraded model…

Needless to say I had a sleepless night, also because I waned it NOW and not later on in the year. There are numerous reasons for this, but it will likely only bore you.

Anyhow, yesterday at 9am I phoned the dealer… and the demo bike was sold. Some time between my test riding it at noon on Saturday and closure somebody had bought the bike.

I ended up jumping onto a ferry from Vancouver to Victoria to test ride the second hand bike.

Now, I am the very happy owner of an older bike, with all bells and whistles and I can only hope it doesn’t cause me any issues.

As a total newcomer to Can Ams, after decades of riding two wheelers, I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the longish ride home.

If it was me, I would be buying option A, SKME…… the ‘20+ RT models have undergone a great refinement over the earlier models, plus all the current advertising blurb shows them being ridden on sand and gravel roads. I have had a ‘21 for 12 months and have ridden on gravel many times with no issues, but like everything, you also need to be lucky. The ‘21+ models handle much better in stock form than the pre ‘20 models. You can then decide exactly which mods are essential for you. Also, it is unlikely you will be able to get your hands on a 22 model for quite some time as BRP are having trouble sourcing electronic components due to Covid.

My first question is - did you test ride the 2016 Spyder? That would be the best way to compare, as to how the body style suits YOU. My wife and I were considering trading our heavy Yamaha cruiser in on a Spyder in 2018, and we went to a Dealer, who let us test ride both the F-3 and the RT style. Neither of us liked the 'feel' or 'fit' of either one. After a near wreck on the Yamaha in 2020, we again checked out the Spyder line, and as soon as I sat on the 'new' body style 2020 RT, I said to the salesman " they redesigned this to fit me". The wife likes the rear seat, especially with the arm rests installed, so that's how we roll now.
To us, the 'feel' of the ride is of first importance, but Yes, they are also quite a lot of money.
Safe riding with whichever choice you make.

I test rode both, the 2021 RT and the 2016 RTS. Both were equally good. I am quite happy with my 2016 RTS, particularly as it has the sway bar installed. It drives wonderfully, so far.
