• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Love MY SPYDER:spyder2:

lAre you limited to just those two?

I've been looking and looking, I found theres alot of brackets out there so thats not a problem. Most are water resistant, ie a few drops of water don't bother them. and some are a whole lot cheaper but offer the same stuff at about 1/2 the price. same size screen, bluetooth etc.. they all work the same..ie GPS.. biggest difference I found has been in water proffing and maybe bigger buttons.. I have one on my Harley its a Garmin unit and I remove it when we stop or leave The Harley and charge it in the hotel rooms. if its gonna rain I simply put a good zip lock baggie (sandwhich size) over it and it still works good, thats been over 25,000 miles ago, only problem is after 2 or 3 years they all become OBSOLETE... just like computers..

I purchased a RAM Aqua Box. The plan was to put my Nuvi 765T in it.

I am convinced that the case is appropriately waterproof and protective.

I hated it! The screen was not visible to my satisfaction. I felt that using the touchscreen was -- at best -- clumsy when in the Aqua Box.

So, I now have the 765T back in my car and a Zumo 660 on the Spyder. And, I don't have to move the GPS back and forth from the car to the Spyder and back.

It is somewhat astounding what some here will spend on mods and additions to their Spyders -- where the prices for some of these goodies are, to me, absolutely horrifying.

On the other hand some will compromise on such things as putting a GPS in a plastic bag or in a mount that limits it's visibility and usability. Or, worse, put it away if it rains.

With my 660 -- let it rain. It will work fine. I will be able to see and read it and use the touchscreen controls as they were designed to be used.

Choices! Ain't they grand?

I've seen a lot of complaints about the 660 (no city names or altitude)- so I bought a NEW 550 on E-bay for $420.. should arrive today

I wanted one that I could swap between bikes, and since the Valk is carbureted, having the altitude is a big plus.

I looked at others, but brightness and ease of use were issues - forget TomTom Ride - if you took off before it locked onto the satellites, you could drive your entire trip before it caught up....

I have the Zumo 660 since June. If you apply the updates to the Zumo there are no problems with street names. I love the portability and the touchscreen to me is worth the price difference over the 550.

Others have purchased less expensive Garmins and put baggies over them when it rains. This is a great idea (you can purchase two or three of these for the price of the 660!).

Baggie ? cheap maybe.

I tried out the 550 unit it's nice but I didn't think I needed all of the features for that price. I'm not sure about the 660 its a little chaeper. Which ever you get get an extended warranty .the're worth the money.I needed one to use primarly in a car, or in our delivery truck the Bike's, atv's spyder's come second. So, I bought a Nuvi 750. It worked well I bought a seperate longer warranty. It no sooner was out of warranty, and It took a drop out of the cab of one of our trucks and that was the end of that. So I sent it to the warranty place. They couldn't repair it so they offered me a 885T in its place. since It has blue tooth and we mostly use the voice part. and I just stick it in my pocket. The baggie protects the screen, from scratches, but still lets you see through it,etc. or I stick it in the tank bag in any case I usally just listen to it using my chatterbox. The wife can also hear it on her spyder or Harley, if she's within range. IF I have to have it displayed and its after it has rained, its protected. It works and I still can still see the big screen and it keeps any road spray off of it. There was about $400 difference in price at the time. And since its primarly used in one of our work trucks, price was more important than waterproof. main point get the extended warranty and be awair that Garmin say's it has not Retailers on Ebay and won't honor the warranty.

I have and enjoy the 550, but as far as I can tell, the main difference between the 550 and the 660 is the 660 does not have XM. I've had the XM on my 550 and found it not very interesting, although it works well enough.

But you can't get stereo music with the 550 anyway without a wire -- its Bluetooth doesn't support stereo. I believe the 660 does, so you can load up a micro SD card with MP3 files and using your Scala Q2, get stereo music.

Either work well with Bluetooth phones -- not that we need the distraction, but I can answer my cell and then pull over to continue to talk.

If you can live without XM, then I'd go with the 660.

Thanks everybody, that is the kind of info I was looking for.:agree:

luv my :spyder2: :2thumbs:
