There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. On the 2010 RTS, lower block off and cat shields. On the '12 RTS, nothing. Seems the heat isn't as bad on the '12. No problems with warranty work either. But then the only warranty work lately was on the '10. Had to have the suspension compressor replaced. Heat on the '10 never has gone above mid way on the analog gauge even in the high heat we had this summer, with the blocker.

Hmmm, maybe there is something to different Spyders. I would love to know why one is hotter than the other with same riders and environment.

Don't know either. :dontknow: Having reread what I posted, I should have said the temp gage didn't go above it's normal reading with the blocker on.

The difference is the calibration of the gauge not the temp. That's why I have a digital temp gauge so I can see what it's doing down to the degree.

I was actually referring to why one of Bruisers Spyders would require heat mods and the other not. Yeah those stock gauges are useless. I still can't decide what to replace mine with.

08 RS SM5: Full Spyderpops air management kit. Still gets hot in city traffic, but not nearly as bad as before. On the open road it's fine.

Up here in vegas, I didnt add anything at all for heat until after I added highway pegs. Found there was more heat from the environment than from the bike, so it didnt really affect anything.

it is interesting that some people are having the heat issue and others are not

my brother and I both have 2012 RT-S that we purchased in August (yeah, we should have waited for the 2013's but the deal was good)

we both are having the driver heat issues (most notably when we are stopped, but even when we are moving at speed there is heat rising up the right side of the RT-S and sometimes it is very uncomfortable)

It's not that the heat issue isn't there for some folks but that they are either in cooler environments or wear better footwear (boots). The post above you has a picture of an RT in the snow with the no heat problem theme. To anyone who REALLY thinks that the hundreds of posts about heat are a fantasy, I challenge you to take heat readings on the right side vs left--you'll be shocked. P.S...BRP finally admits it with a fix on the 2013s.

I wish it was an easy fix with footwear. I already wear thick leather boots, as does my wife. With the lower block off plate and holes on the swoop, at least the cooked foot issue is resolved and hugely reduced the blow torch effect of the top port.

Seem to recall some guy named flybuddy gave me some pointers on the swoop holes. :D

Thx--I wish I had stuck with that. The lower block off and swoop holes were very effective in reducing heat. I thought that wrapping the exhaust would help further as well as keep the gas tank and seat cooler. While that did help with the tank and seat it pushed more heat to the cat and increased the lower right side heat by about 10 degrees. The cat really needs to go.

2012 RT Ltd, I have the cat shields and upper block of plate both from Spyderpops, here in Arkansas it can get pretty hot, those two mods really helped alot.

So, according to this poll, only 33 of us have applied heat mods and of those only one is running a FanCan? Wow! I couldn't even buy a fan can for a couple of months after Spyderfest, because according to the ISCI guys they sold out of their entire stock on the first day of the gathering! It's cooler now, so maybe everyone's out riding, but it seems strange there's so little response on this one.

Sorry, don't mean to :bdh:but I'm really curious on this one.

I normally wear boots and with more 9K on my 2012 RT, heat has not yet been an issue with me. In addition to Spyderpop's upper block off plate, I removed both underside covers. 5 bars is as hot as its ever gotten.

For this poll to have any real perspective it needed a 'None' option. I think if it had that it would be the overwhelming choice. I ride my RS in very hot conditions, stop & go included. While there is heat, it certainly isn't anything beyond what all my other motorcycles created. Afterall, it's not a car where the engine compartment is partitioned off from the passenger area.

When you straddle a heater, you're going to notice an increase in temperature.

Ron, perhaps you should start a none post.

My interest was in who had done the mod and the approach they took, not who hadn't.

The other day, I counted the "none" replies, and determined that they didn't outnumber the cumulative mods done in the poll. At the time I counted, they may have counted for about 10 - 15% of the total responses.

I hate the right side hot air venting as much as some others do, however the heat has to be vented out somewhere (bike temp never over 5 bars). I have looked at many options to reduce the heat being blown out onto the right foot. The best I could come up with was the one I use, which deverts the air further out and around the foot, and Spyderpops cat heat shields. I looked at the block plates but I felt uncomfortable pushing the hot air back towards the fuel cell.

My dealer has never said a single word about my mods except asking the question, "how does that work for you?". I wear good high top leather boots and thick socks. I pick and choose which days to ride if heat is going to be an issue on the ride, such as a hot day or stop and go traffic. I look at it like some park their bike for the winter and I park my bike for the summer. I really enjoy my RT and would not trade it away for any other brand out there. The hot air sucks for sure, but I live with it.
