• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Where can I find a better dipstick?

I'm still pullin for the sight glass. Even my 40 something GT750s have a sight glass.

come to think of it, those sight glasses are threaded with an o-ring...I need to grab me a used oil tank and take it all down to the machine shop and see what they can do. Hardest part is finding the 'warm' oil height and marking that location.

DIPSTICK REPLACEMENT

:yes::yes:...I must have been out of the country and missed this one ...........But Bob D. is correct I have created a " THREADLESS " dipstick ( why He didn't post a PIC while He had it I don't know ????).....It's not CHROME so I didn't think there would be much interest here :roflblack:.......and since my name isn't John, or Lenny, or Pops etc. I have zero credibility here.... But it's an exact copy of the OEM one for all the 998 engines oil resevoir's ........I did extend the stick a little so you can tell sooner where the oil is when you are doing an oil change.....Also mine is foolproof ....you can't do it wrong.......and it works when the engine is at proper temp.......Mikeguyver

The dipstick for the 2014 RT is under the seat... with a 1/4 twist cap and a cable with a piece of plastic tacked to the end for oil measurement.... much better system than the one on my 2010 - but I'd still vote for something a bit more robust....

I have everything on hand to make these, I just need some time to crank a few out. I see that Mikeguyver has beaten me to the table on this one.

Yea, but he does not post pics or have great customer service with the sale.....:)

Look forward to seeing your new product.

I'm hopefully going to put the sight glass idea together in the next couple of weeks. Ordered a used oil tank, and a sight glass from a motorcycle that is replaceable. I just need to measure the depth of my dipstick and mark up the tank, then get it to my machinist buddy to put in the bung for the sight glass.

I won't sell em though, no time or interest, will just put the part numbers up if it works out. I like the idea of popping the cover and just looking at a glass to see my level rather than fooling with a dipstick.

I need to bust a couple of these out and send them to my Beta testers... and I was hoping that I'd get my 6-way blade control handle for the dozer rebuilt today.

I was just the Transporter...

And you know the rules... :D

Just a thought. If a cold dip stick reading was accurate then why would BRP not have implemented that? Most cars and other vehicles are cold dip stick.
Why did they implement a full temp dip stick?
There must be a reason?

Bob

I would opine that it's because we use a "dry sump" engine and cars use a "wet sump" engine. They are a very different animal. I am not aware of any wet sump engines that check the oil level in the tank on a cold engine because of the check valve and the variation in the oil level due to leak down.

Do we have an update on a better dipstick or does anyone know if there is an aftermarket one out there? I can't find one with google, and this post hasn't been touched in a year.

There's got to be a better way and maybe a better thread improvement.
O ring seat groove can be added to eliminate to problem. Can a crush washer be use instead the o ring? Cam and lock type possibility??
A positive brainstorming will help us all end up a better product. Good luck.

I don't understand the mechanics behind this however someone told me at Spyderfest 2014 to turn the "O" Ring around if it hangs on the threads and it actually took care of the problem.

I also crossed threaded mine 2yrs ago, but after pushing the O-ring back in place, I was able to work, wiggle and turn the dip stick back and forth until it actually caught and corrected itself.... Since then, I have been very careful when checking my oil.
I guess I was lucky.....

I agree and I superglued my o ring to the dipstick early spring this year and it has stayed put so far. I find that when it starts to crossthread if I keep a little down pressure on it and turn it ccw a bit it aligns itself.
