• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

What to wear?

As I posted on another similar thread, I have to deal with extreme humidity here in Alabama. I usually wear a cotton t-shirt under a Draggin' Jeans kevlar mesh shirt. I wear Diamond Gusset's Defender jeans, which are generously cut for comfort and lined with kevlar cloth at the knees, hips, and butt.

Note that none of these have impact pads, but I figure at least I'm reasonably protected against road rash. And I've found that cotton is the best fabric for humid weather.

Hint: Diamond Gusset usually has their Defender jeans on sale between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I am always amazed!

As the original poster I asked a simple question. Why does it always have to turn into such an argument and pissing contest. I am shopping for gear and wanted input and advice from the learned brothers and sisters on this forum. I worked as a firefighter for 35 years and made way to many rescue calls on these motorcycle accidents. That is why I chose a SpYder for my mid life crisis. I am not paranoid about getting hurt, but I also have fire extinguishers in my house, wear my seatbelt in my car, carry a Kimber 45 cal. and listen to the emergency plan when I fly. It is my choice to ride as comfortable and protected as I can and appreciate the info on gear.

As the original poster, you asked if "anyone wears shorts and a shirt". I for one do. I did ask a question though with reference to the use of your term "slide". I asked it because I wonder if we do "slide" when we have an accident with a spyder viz a viz a two wheeler. I meant no disrespect, but I've had to lay down a two wheeler a couple of times, and it truly was a slide. However, with a three wheeler my only experience was when a lady blew through a red light and hit my right luggage case and sent me up in the air. That wasn't a slide. There were no abrasions, but instead broken bones and a torn rotator cuff.

Although I was wearing at that time jeans, cowboy boots and a tee shirt, I normally wear shorts in this Flarda heat about 95% of the time that I ride. It's my choice.

I also rarely ride with a group. Too many rules and too much BS. I like to stop and smell the roses when I ride.

As the original poster I think we gave yiu the best advice we can from each of our prospectives. So I and many others wear Atgatt in summer winter. In winter we wear thermals and jacket liners and thicker gloves. In the summer same thing with Heat out under gear, mesh jackets, and cooling vests. The more intelligent of the group wear helmets all of the time and some people dress down. From perspective, you are safer, and cooler when yiu are completely covered. That is especially true when the temperature rises above 99 degrees. When that happens your body is cooler than the surrounding air and your body starts to absorb heat from the environment, making yiu hitter than your normal 98.6 Not to mentione the effects of sun burn.

:agree: Folks told you what they wore for comfort, and folks told you what they wore for protection...
Then we had a little "discussion" about who was right, and why the other guy was so wrong!

Perfectly "Norbal" for this place! :roflblack:

Actually, Bob, mine wasn't from a slant of being either right or wrong. Mine was simply "choice". If others choose to wear all that garb, that is perfectly fine by me, and I don't consider them idiots. What they wear is their choice and I respect that just as I respect whether to ride in groups or not

I just don't see where slide comes into play on a spyder, but that's okay. There's obviously a lot of things that I don't see. <smiles>

I wear vibrams, sometimes flip flops but typically my big toe gets mad at me when I do that. Always shorts and a t-shirt maybe a zip up shacket (shirt/jacket) if it mid 50,s I'll ride with my rpm can am pants.

Sempert out,

Well, the slide begins when one is ejected from the bikeand hits the ground at velocity. I read somewhere that at 60 mph, abrasionforces will grind away about two inches of unprotected flesh per second.
