What Tire pressures should I be using?

Am I supposed to run my tire pressures at what the tire recommends, or something else? Seems I read something here (can't find it for the life of me now) about running at 18 in front and 28 rear? All 3 of my tires recommend 28psi. Why the big difference in the front? Is a softer front gonna help handling.....isn't it gonna wear incorrectly?

If you have switched to car tires ( like a lot of us ) , I think you will have to experiment.......BRP gives you their estimate based on KENDA's, however car tires have more plies , better? sidewalls , also car tires can support way more load than the Kenda's. IMHO you can run less air using car tires ( and get a better ride ) without sacrificing safety or performance......Test, Test, Test for yourself , no one can give you a Magic number...:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:............Mike

If you have stock tires check the label on the bike (if I recall correctly it's under the seat, and I think it recommends a plus/minus range of about 2 psi). I'm running 20 in the front and 30 in the rear, and I'm happy with the ride and the performance. Our RT is too new for me to be able to comment on wear, however.

Kendas all the way around. 2010 RT. I guess you're right, everyone prefers something different. After the short ride yesterday, with all tires at 28psi, I switched the front shock preload from 3 to 4. Hoping the firm tires and stiffer preload will help prevent the rolling effect in the corners. Otherwise BajaRon might be gaining a customer. I really haven't ridden enough to make any rash decisions just yet.

Are you new to this bike? I hesitate to doubt what you saying, but I'm not sure you are reading the recommended pressures correctly. I have a 2013 RT, and the recommended pressure is only 15 psi for the front and 28 psi in the rear, ±2. I run 18 and 30. I don't think the recommended pressures have changed all that much over the years of the RT. Here is a thread from 2011 that would seem to confirm that. I would think that 28 psi in the front would cause your Spyder to loose traction and handle poorly in the turns.

Wait a minute... I just read your post again and you said, "All 3 of my tires recommend 28 psi." Are you, by chance, looking at the maximum pressure rating on the tire sidewall? That is NOT the recommended pressure. You should find the recommend pressure on the placard under the seat, and in the manual.

Depends..!

A lot on your ryding style and load. The recommended +/- is a starting point. If you ryde double up you may want more if solo and light weight maybe less. Ryde the same course at different pressures till you find the best for you. Ryding an RS I can't recommend a good tire pressure for you...:thumbup:

Last year at Spyder Quest, a guy from Netzley Tire told me folks were having good luck with 20 psi in front and 30 psi in the rear. I have been using those pressures, ever since and am really happy with the results.

I have always ran the suggested range from BRP. I use the Kenda stock tires. 18 in the fronts and 28 in the rear. My mileage (with two exceptions) has been 20K - 23K on the fronts and 13K - 15K on the rear tires. This covers 5 :ani29:'s and over 110,000 miles.

An alignment issue caused one front to go bad at 15K on the 2011.

I got 9K on the rear of the 2014. This was good, compared to what was reported by many. The 2014's have now went back to the "older" tread compound and (they) say that the mileage should improve.

With many using car tires now, I would recommend the suggested air pressure embossed on the tires. If the suggested pressure causes handling issues, then would experiment with lesser pressures in the fronts.

Also waiting to hear how this also works out.

28 in the front will make you roll a lot, 18 - 20 front, 28 - 30 rear, big important point is make sure that your front tires are equally pressurized.

28 in the front will produce a lot of bounce and less stability

Markyodo has provided you a sample sticker that is on the Spyder under the seat. Why don't you also look at your operator's guide and to find the BRP recommended pressures and experiment from there.

Pressure noted on tires is maximum. The vehicle indicates proper pressure for it. I go by the vehicle recommendations. If you have too high pressure the center of the tire will wear prematurely. too low, the tread near the sidewalls will wear prematurely.

Just so you know that BRP tire pressure specs for the front tires is ± 0.25 psig from tire to tire on the front tires.

I just checked my front tire pressure: Left - 18.5, Right - 20. So there is 1.5 psi difference, yet the RT seems to be handling just fine.

Is it really important to keep them within .5 psi of each other?

:lecturef_smilie:....Only if you are really anal :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:........Of course there are people here who will say they can tell just from riding their Spyder if the tires are off 1 lb...............and will tell you it really really matters ..................Personally I have better things to do than attempting to achieve PERFECT tire balance......Whatever rows your boat.........:thumbup:
