• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

what kind of engine would you like ?

...Give the touring types one engine, and the performance types a different modification, rather than trying to make one engine fit all. We have diffrerent models to choose from--there should be a couple engines to go with them.
:agree: I think that they tried with the "990" and "991" tuning differences...

You can pretty much bet the only engine we will ever see in a Spyder will be a Rotax. All the other suggestions are great but Rotax is owned by BRP and I'm sure they can make what they have work for us in some shape or form.
I want more power (torque), longer life and better fuel economy (6 speed). Just saying. :D

RSV4 from Aprilia (186 HP):
  • Engine capacity: 999.6 cc
  • Architecture: 65° V4
  • Crankcase: monobloc with integrated crankcase liners
  • Timing system: 4 valves per cylinder (Titanium and Nymonic) operated directly by a camshaft driven by a mixed chain/gear system, lateral timing chain, central gear train
  • Fuel system: Electronic injection with 2 injectors per cylinder and integrated independent Ride by Wire system for each bank. Three mappings selectable from handlebar.
  • Antivibration countershaft
  • Compression ratio: 13:1
  • Transmission: 6-speed direct-control cassette type gearbox
  • Clutch: Multiplate wet clutch with mechanical slipper system
  • Electronic management: Magneti Marelli control unit managing ignition, injection and Ride by Wire system, and variable length intake ducts
  • APRC system for dynamic control

Well yes but does it have a hand grenade duct-taped under the cases???:roflblack::shemademe_smilie::pray:

That thing has just got to love to rev!!

I've outgrown my need for speed. :agree:with Scotty, more cruise range would be great. The club I ride with all have 2 wheelers, it's a pain for them and me when I have to stop every 100 miles to fill up while they still have 3/4 of a tank left. :opps: And I have the larger fuel tank :gaah:

More Motor! - Bigger Tires!

My fantasy side DEFINITELY goes with Seth on this, but the realistic side agrees with Lamont. It will be a Rotax. But confound it, if they could get 180HP for the Aprilia race bike, they can certainly improve the HP and torque numbers for us and stay with the same platform. They are just being stingy with it and that is why the customer base is not growing the way it should be. Young folks will never go for it as long as it's doggin' the way it is now. A non-switchable, non-tweekable nanny is another huge detriment that should be addressed...

Ya know, I'm not really too unhappy with the stock engine. If they would just give us the ability to choose different stages of tune like most of the new crotch rockets I think that would take care of it. How about Touring, Sport, and Rain selections? Couple the tune stages with the VSS to support the selections and I think I'd be happy. Off course a little more horsepower and torque wouldn't hurt my feelings any:D.

LIke what your Ultra is packing?? I sure wouldn't mind more grunt just off of idle, but I'm not sure that a pushrod motor with milk pail sized slugs in the bore is where I'd want to go to get it...
Although I DID go climb on a Tri-Glide Ultra this past Friday... WHEW! :2thumbs:

.... longer life....

How many miles do you suppose the Rotax 998cc on the Spyder is good for? 100,000? more? less?

Why just one?

Seems to me they would be wise to offer a longer stroke torquemonster for the rt guys, think Harley. For the RS the 998 Rotax is fine but there should be a 650 750 ish option for a commuter special. 50+ mpg @ 70mph would sale a lot of units now......just wait till the full impact of the domestic anti oil company policy's really hit.
For the speed demons just have the 150 hp Aprilla engine as an option.

A long stroke v-twin would be difficult, given the current architecture. There is precious little room under the frame, above the valve covers, for this shorter stroke version. A taller frame, to accomodate the engine, would cut even further into the fuel tank area. A boxer engine would be easier to work with for several reasons...although a severely canted four or six inline, like the new BMWs, might work.

50 mpg ain't gonna happen with anything the size of a barn door, with the aerodynamics of a parachute. A more aerodynamic vehicle would kill the look...especially with the suspension covered. I don't think we want clones of cages. Some things may be desireable, buit they aren't always practical...or pretty. Nice to dream about, though. Perhaps a hybrid is the answer.
