• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I use 89 octane as it is the only fuel available around here. I have a 2012 RTL with over 12,000 and average 37 to 40 MPG on US gallon. I have tried higher octane when in the US with poorer results.
That's what I want to hear confirmation of my observation. My thinking on this comes from some recent posts about higher the octane lower the boiling point. Have not smelled gas fumes since changing....yet so am wondering if this helps on that point.

My Dealer Said.....

Had our bike in for the 6000 service a while back, and the service manager told me that we should run regular gas instead of the premium. He said that with a low compression engine like the 998 that it would run better. We have tried that and have not noticed much of a difference. I might add this is a highly respected dealer in our area, and people drive hundreds of miles to have their machines serviced there.

This is another one of those--there is no right answer threads. Here, the highest octane available in most cases in 91. We also have 87 and 89. No ethanol is added to our gas that I know of--however, they do make "winter blends."

I always put in the 91. I have tried 87 a few times--but it seems to me, that my :spyder2:'s like the higher octane blend better. They seem to be more responsive. I have not noticed any appreciable difference in mileage.

He works for the government and we're gonna have to start registering the fuel octane we use. Then they are going to limit how much we can buy at a time. Then they'll start in places like NYC making it illegal to buy period....then all the hybrid people will push to try to have our constitutional right to buy gas banned from the US.

What is the world coming too?? :gaah:

Does anyone have any kind of idea where I could find 93 and/or ethanol free in California?
Anywhere at all?

I've not been able to find it. ...and I was told that it is too dangerous to make it in my garage...
Anyone know where I can get either 93 or ethanol free in the People's Republic of California?

Sorry, it's pure-gas.org now.....

No where near me.

What do you all think the ethanol is doing to you?

If you're constantly running fresh gas through your bike what is it effecting?

Ive heard about it deteriorating fuel lines and such, but that's over about 8-10 years.

What else?

The Octane number a figure indicating the antiknock properties of a fuel, based on a comparison with a mixture of isooctane and heptane. I use recommended when i can.

A few years ago I did a trip from east Tennessee to San Diego and back. Consecutively ran several tanks of each octane starting with regular. All tanks were ethanol (up to 10%). Regular and mid grade mileage ran very close to the same with a slight edge to Mid-Grade fuel. Premium consistently got me about 2-3 mpg better. I did not count mileage with significant city or non-freeway driving.

I repeated this same process going back to east Tennessee. Started with regular for about 1/3 of the trip and ended up running premium the last 1/3 with the same results. It's about 2,200 miles one way so we are talking 5-6 fill-ups for each fuel grade each way.

We know that the Spyder has the ability to run on regular fuel as the computer will retard ignition timing to prevent knock. Though this will work, it is not ideal as retarded ignition reduces power and mileage. If you run regular fuel in conditions where the computer does not need to retard ignition timing to prevent knock then you probably will not see an improvement in fuel mileage or power running premium fuel.

So is there a knock sensor in the Spyder? I assume their is but am I right?:dontknow:
