I totally get your reasoning for comparing costs but how are we to do that without knowing EXACTLY what was done during your visits to the dealership?
You say 3k and 9k milage checkups. Not all dealers will perform the exact same service. It would be nice if they were all consistent but I don't believe that they are.
What's wrong with listing what was done, if for no other reason than to just to humor us?
No worries. So based on what I provide below, what are your thoughts? I've only been in the CanAm world for 10 months, thus the reason for my initial question. I am used to two-wheeled motorcycles and well aware of break-in periods as well as the maintenance schedule and costs. I knew that the maintenance cost for the Spyder would be more due to the removal of panels to access the engine
For the 3,000 mile checkup the following is a description of services was provided:
"Perform 3000 mile service and adjustments per maintenance schedule. This service is in reference to all 2014+ UP SE6 RT Models"
The Spyder was idling rough at start up. This was checked and there were no issues. No charge for checking the idling issue.
Labor cost 312.00
Oil change kit 146.99
All other labor
BajaRon Sway Bar installation - Installation costs 360.00
DPS recall - 0.00
Suspension fault - 0.00
Estimate to replace front shocks only - $500.00
As far as the 9,000 mile checkup, in your initial response you provided the following comment
"
What's included for that price? For that kinda dough you should be getting an alignment and belt tension check and all the other normal stuff. As others have stated, it's too early for a plug change.
If not, that price is crazy and you need to look for another shop for the work "
My goal is to clarify with the shop as to what service they are actually providing during the 9,000 mile checkup and post a reply. My initial question to the service department was on Friday. I have not had a chance to follow up since receiving your comment. Because the 9,000 mile checkup involved more than the 3,000 mile checkup, I had no idea what others were paying. As far as I knew, the price could have been average.
I am getting more comfortable performing work on the Spyder and plan on doing more as my experience level increases.
Could you provide a description of what services your dealer provided and the associated cost? This would be helpful for me to gauge what I can expect as an average price for basic maintenance going forward. Realizing that services performed will vary as well as the quality of the work performed.
I am prepping the Spyder for extended trips and plan on doing additional work over the next few weeks. I'm trying to get a feel of what to expect for labor costs. (I have 3 dealers within 1.5 hour radius that can perform any necessary work. )
As always, thank you for taking the time to reply. Much appreciated.
