Water in Frunk

View from behind

We recently noticed a small amount of water in the bottom of the Frunk of our 2015 RT Limited. My husband thinks the water is coming from one of the "fuse covers". In looking at these covers the seal appears to be pretty cheap. We can't be the only ones with this problem, has anyone come up with a better seal for these? Thanks in advance.

Your Spyder is still under warranty; tell the dealer to replace the seals if that is the problem. Some folks have experienced leaks at the battery door seal, again not the best in the world, particularly if a battery tender pig tail has been installed and the tail was not carefully routed. I have such a system and the tech who assembled the bike routed the pigtail straight up and out the top of the door. I have never experienced any leakage in my frunk even in frog strangling rain. Good luck!

Our 2014 RTS would accumulate water in the bottom of the Frunk. I noticed it primarily when I washed it. The tub, which is the frunk, has a seam running around it. With the frunk lid open you will see a hole below the latch mechanism. Wash or rain water is supposed to flow down that hole and out. Because the seam was not sealed properly it would leak back into the frunk near the door for the access to the battery. It was a problem on a few Spyders and was a warranty repair item. My dealer replaced the tub and the problem has not reoccurred.
Another possibility is that the seal on the frunk lid is allowing the water in.
Try removing the liner inside the frunk and poor some water down the hole that I mentioned and see if water leaks back in near the battery door. If it does you know what the problem is and go to your dealer and show them and it should be a warranty repair.

Both possible situations have been mentioned. The top gasket is not seated properly--or--leaking fusebox cover. The first is a self fix and the second is a warranty item.

OK, we have run water through the hole and no water in frunk. Then ran water just to the left of the hole causing water to run to the hole and also water to run around the upper portion of the tub. This caused water to show in a small section of the seam of the two tub sections where there appears to be a silicone seal. Replicated this on the other side of the frunk and no water visible. The section that appears to allow the water in is only a couple of inches in length. We are thinking of running a bead of silicone in that area. Any thoughts?

why apply a bandaid when it appears you have a warranty repair?

Our concern is that all the dealer is going to do is apply a bead of silicone which we can do without tying the bike up for a couple of days at the dealers and probably do a better job of it.

Choices, choices

You can seal it up yourself as you say the dealer may do the same thing. But on the other hand they may do more and if you do ryde a lot in the rain it may be worth finding out what the dealer will do...:dontknow: if it only happens when you wash the ryde and you don't ryde in the rain your solution will work....

The leak is pretty minor, we have been on vacation for the last 2 weeks with the bike setting in the pouring rain for several hours and ridden in the rain for approximately 4 hours on the last day. Came home and thoroughly washed the bike. After all this, there was probably a couple of ounces of water in the bottom. We think there is a very small area where the water is coming in and we are concerned about the dealer causing more damage than good if the front was torn apart.

Perhaps talking to your dealer about it first might help. When I had the problem with our tub, I spoke to the service manager at my dealership first. I did go to my dealership and show them. They agreed and pre-ordered the new tub so when I brought the Spyder in, they replaced it and I was back on the road in just a couple of hours.
They didn't silicone it and I would not want that done as there is no guarantee that later on it wouldn't start to leak again. If they take that kind of shortcut on a warranty issue I wouldn't be very happy. Remember that it is something you can have done when it is convenient for you as long as they agree to handle it as a warranty issue, which it is.
However, do what works for you.

I think that is good advice, we will speak with the service manger and see what their approach to fixing the problem would be. Thanks for everyone's feedback.
