• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Warranty Question if anyone is awake this morning

I picked up my 3rd Spyder last night and will be going on an out of state ride this coming up Monday. I have an appointment with the dealership today to have the 500 mile service done, which I was going to pay for, however, the former owner paid $1316 for an extended service conract when they purchased it back in October last year. The Spyder is not officially in my name yet, I just have the signed Title, so the question is...and delimma, can I show this to the dealership and maybe its already covered?

I really don't want to go on a few thousand mile ride without the service done of course, but if it has already been paid for then why pay again?

On another note, I think I got a pretty good deal on it, here is what I got:

08 SE5 Automatic, with 688 miles.
Black/silver but will be swapping out my yellow panels from my SM5
Trunk liner, floor boards, riser installed, factory back rest, tank bag and Kuryakyn travel bag (very sweet bag)
Also comes with that extended service contract and the previous owner even bought the $649 wheel/tire protection package.
Paid $11,000 cash.

The BEST plus covers some maintenance; the BEST doesn't cover any maintenance. I'd take all the paperwork you have to the dealership and give it a try.

I am not sure that the extended warranty alone pays for the service, if they got the BRPPlus, it will be included in the warranty. I know our BRPPlus includes an annual service at no cost to us. You would have to have your dealership check to find out if the paperwork has to all be transferred before it will be honored. This also may be dealership dependent, in how it is handled. I know the dealerships turn everything in to the BEST folks to be reimbursed. Either way, congrats on another fine purchase and enjoy and be safe.

If it is not a BRP BEST warranty, but a local service contract, it may not even transfer to another dealer, so I would check. Also, be sure to send in the BRP warranty transfer form in the back of the Owner's Guide. If it is a BEST warranty, that form may also cover the BEST transfer, but I'd check with a dealer or BRP. One other note, most states allow you to drive a newly purchased vehicle directly to your home with just a receipt and signed tiltle, and no plates, but a long ride is a bit of a risk. Be prepared for possible hassles. Be sure to get your insurance in order first, too. Of course BJT rode halfway across the country with no plate, so you may do OK. I would not swap a plate, even from another Spyder. Better to be without one on a new vehicle than have the wrong one, IMO.

If it is a service contract with that same dealership and you show them the title, they should accept it. They should have in their record a copy of the service contract with the VIN listed.

I am not an expert in service contract, but my guess is that you buy it for a specific vehicle and that it follows the vehicle until the contract expires.

My $0.02!

I bought a used SM5 with a 3 year extended warrany purchased by the original owner, and it was transferred to me at the time I did the sale paperwork at the dealership.

However, as has already been pointed out, regular BEST does not cover scheduled maintenance, BEST-Plus covers some. Do you know which one you're getting?

Even if it is the Best Plus that covers one service a year you might do better to pay for the 600 and use it on the 12000 which is more expensive. Depending of course on how long of a trip you are taking and how many. Some of the Spyders have turned 12000 in one year easy but with three the miles may be spread out. Sounds like you got a deal to me. :ohyea:
