There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Warranty BS

As I see it...

Something is fishy....:dontknow: agree some names and numbers should be taken....and followed up on...:lecturef_smilie:

I work at a Chrysler car dealer in the US. We cannot do warranty repairs on a Canadian vehicle unless the owner is from Canada and is in transit, for example, vacation. We have to have a copy of his Canadian drivers license and registration.

What dealer did he go to in what town? Being in AZ I want to know, and others may want to know as well.

Rob

He is in Surprise AZ. That's near Phoenix I think. The dealership is Ridenow Powersports. Multiple locations, don't know which one.

I believe it is suppose to work the same way for a Spyders. Someone on Facebook said he has had several warranty repairs done on his Canadian Spyder in Florida. Just had to sign a paper stating that he was as the owner is a resident of Canada and just a tourist in the US.

The 2014 warranty page is the same looks like. The heading clearly states BRP Limited Warranty - USA and Canada. The only restrictions are as has been said the buyer must be a resident of the country where he is buying it and the dealer must be an authorized dealer in that country. The only other limitation is that Spyders sold in the US have a 5 year warranty on the emissions system. Canada does not.

Otherwise everything is discussed without regard to country of purchase or use.

This line
"the buyer must be a resident of the country where he is buying it and the dealer must be an authorized dealer in that country."
Sure sounds like you have to get it fixed in the country you bought it in....bummer if true.

:banghead: This is gonna start making our friends to the North think that we're building The Wall on the wrong border... :banghead:

:agree:...Total B.S. :gaah:

They're going to be the ones building a wall up there... to keep US out.....;)

That's a short version of the warranty terms. To have a warranty the bike has to be sold by a dealer in the country to a resident of the country. Doesn't refer to claims.

The link to the Owner's guides is down. So I can't get the 2017 version, but I have the 2016 RT manual saved. The language has changed a little bit.

This warranty coverage is available only if each of the following conditions has
been fulfilled:
– The 2016 Roadster must be purchased as new and unused by its first owner
from a Spyder Roadster dealer authorized to distribute Roadsters in the country
in which the sale occurred (“Dealer”).
– The BRP-specified pre-delivery inspection process must be completed, documented
and signed by the purchaser.
– The Roadster must have undergone proper warranty registration by an authorized
Dealer.
– The Roadster must be purchased in the country in which the purchaser resides.
– Routine maintenance must be performed as indicated in the OPERATOR'S
GUIDE. BRP reserves the right to make warranty coverage contingent upon
proof of proper maintenance.
BRP will not honor this limited warranty to any private use owner or commercial
use owner if the preceding conditions have not been met. Such limitations are
necessary in order to allow BRP to preserve both the safety of its products, and
also that of its consumers and the general public.

Please note that the selling dealer definition and the buyer country note are separated to make the meaning clearer.

Didn't know warranties had borders.:dontknow:
They could have borders if they state so within their terms...

A warranty is a contract, thus comes under "contract law." One meaning of contract law is that a contract is its own law.

Ergo, a warranty is the law, as concerns the obligations described by that warranty.

Sorry to hear about your friend and his Ride Now experience.

I narrowed your post a bit. I am guessing Can Am created a great loophole to deny a lot of warranty claims with the above statement. Kind of beyond wonderful they do not define "proof of proper maintenance". This could easily void a warranty claim without a fight for those that do their own oil change or other items.

I spend equal amounts of time in both Counties. Wife is Canadian I am American. We purchased Spyder in Canada as
this is our permanent residence. My dealer assured me any warranty work could be done in either country. This is another
stupid dealer who just wants to steal money from a customer. The dealer should be named so people will know who to stay away from. Bob My thoughts only and some times I am wrong.

I agree with you. It,s the dealer that dosn,t know how the warranty works. For any one coming to Canada your covered don,t worry.Just like auto dealers they have to cover you in both countrys. If a Canadian bought a new Spyder in the USA then no warranty same if an American bought one from Canada.

When the $CAD was about par with the $US, Canadians would go to the border states to buy a Spyder as your prices were significantly lower. BRP soon put a stop to that by saying they would not be covered by a warranty when brought back to Canada.

However if the Spyder owner who is having this problem bought it in Canada, has Canada as his country of residence & is on vacation with it in the US it won't (shouldn't) be a problem for warranty repairs.

So, this person bought one of the most expensive spyders you can find and now you are telling them the warranty is no good one model year later. What good is a warranty you can drive away from? Not a real bright move...........
:duh:

Just sayin'..............

The only one saying the warranty is not good is the dealer the OP took his bike to. All we're saying is he is a Canadian resident, he bought the Spyder in Canada, the dealer was authorized to sell it in Canada, so his warranty is valid when he travels in the US.

The problem is likely the dealer

Ridenow, that's his problem! Please encourage him to call Sierra Cycles at 520 459 2589 and ask for David Levitt. They are an independent family-owned dealership that knows what customer service is! Feel free to mention my name (Rob Owen) and perhaps your friend can get a 2nd opinion from David Levitt.
