Warning - Product conflicts- Spyderpops Rockguard and Dont Eat Mud mudflaps

I recently purchased a SpyderPops Mud/Rock Guard for my trailer hitch. I also have a Don't Eat Mud mudflap installed. I installed it per SpyderPops instructions. Nowhere on their site or in the instructions does it state NOT to use their product with a mud flap. I rode to DC on Sunday and upon my return notice damage to my rear fender, which will require replacement. I contacted SpyderPops and sent photos. They claim my mudflap did the damage, NOT their product. The mudflap would not damage the fender. So I am stuck with a $400.00 replacement cost. It might be wise to choose one or the other. Below is their response:

Bernard,
We do not advocate adding mud flaps in conjunction with our Hitch Splash
Plates as they work very well alone. It appears that a mud flap with a
chrome emblem was used in conjunction with our Hitch Splash Plate.

It appears that the chrome emblem became lodged between the mud flap and
splash plate. If that is what actually happened then it appears it bucked up
the fender and extended it over the splash plate to cause the damage.

As I first mentioned we have had no incidents of damage with these splash
plates through 100's of applications. The Hitch Splash Plate has been tested
with the stock fender configuration and not with other modifications. Adding
any other flexible modifications that could be affected by wind from the
tire or vibration removes the clearance designed to allow the fender to pass
by the splash plate.

It appears that other modifications are a responsible factor causing the
damage.

Thanks,
Harvey

A couple of thousand years ago I worked in a Paint Store.
A customer came in towing a coffee table in a red wagon.
That Urethane coating never dried. Look.

It was still a bit tacky.
When did you coat it?
Three days ago, right after I stained it.
What kind of stain did you use?
Coffee.
Oh, not the color, but what brand?
Coffee. Chase & Sanborne.
That might be why it hasn’t dried properly.
Oh yeah? Show me on the directions where it says you can’t use coffee as a stain.

I dunno, somehow that story seems appropriate.

Bummer...

Sorry you were the one to find this out. As a manufacturer for many years I can tell you this, it is impossible to forsee all the possiblities once you turn your product over to joe public ( that is and always will be the ultimate test, no lab can duplicate it ). Probably why there are so many new and improved products out there. I understand cause I have been there more than once on many products that cost me yet led to a better product...:banghead:

Last August I had Harvey install one of his splash guards on my hitch. I also had a Don't Eat Mud mud flap already on. The deference being that I have the plan mud flap (No Emblem). I have had no issues at all and the maker of the mud flap is the one who told me to get the plate from Harvey.
Considering the tight tolerance between the two I can see where having the emblem would cause issues.

 I'm sorry to hear that you got tripped up by this...

But it does show the extra caution necessary, when mixing and matching the Farkles. nojoke

Ooops

I have the Show Chrome trailer hitch and the Show Chrome mudflap extender, when I hit a pothole the swing arm went down, the mudflap extender popped out over the trailer hitch and when the swing arm came back up, it broke my back fender on my 2015 RTL.
Show Chromes response was "we will replace the extender, but not the fender", the reason was that in the directions on the extender it said, will not work with all trailer hitches. I never thought they were talking about their own.:dontknow:

I purchased a new rear fender from http://www.powersportswarehouse.com for $120.00 and installed it myself. Pretty easy to do.

I then took the new extender and modified it so that I would never have that problem again.

Harvey-Spyderpops making rearations.

Thanks to Harvey @ Spyderpops for stepping forward. His solution to my problem he came up with is acceptable. I will not go into our agreement but it is genuine and good business. My only wish is that I knew of the product conflict. I will choose one once my fender is replaced. Once again thanks Harvey.

I do not understand why Harvey had to make any concession on this issue or why you would even ask for, or accept any concession, especially after bashing him online, maybe we ought to send you the address of a safe zone so you can put your big boy panties on and be protected. This may sound harsh but i think that our society is becoming more and more dependent on everyone needing someone to coddle them. just my .02 cents worth, feel free to ignore it if you don't understand the problem. RANT OVER.

Point well made.

When I had my RS, I purchased a few Spyderpops products, all failed. Two rock guards, missing air damn and air management system.

Glad to hear the issue is solved and that Harvey went above and beyond to keep a customer happy.

Labeling about potential liabilities has become a nightmare for manufacturers and sellers of merchandise to the public.

In one of my accounting courses, we cover what to do about "contingent liabilities."

I discuss as a "far out" example:

A power lawnmower company sells a mower to a customer. The customer decides that they are going to shave with the power lawnmower. The customer then decides to sue the manufacturer because of the damage the lawnmower did to his face.

Who is liable here?

Should a warning label have been put on the mower directing the customer not to shave with it?

I'm glad to hear that a successful conclusion has been reached... :congrats:
Harvey's a GREAT guy, and an even greater friend to all of us!

hat's off to Harvey

I believe this is a testament to Harvey's character. It is obvious to me that he had no liability in this issue, but-He chose to step up to the plate and keep a customer happy. That's the type of man I prefer to do business with. Randy

:gaah:FARKLES are not universal:banghead::banghead::popcorn::coffee:
:agree: & rather curious as to the dont eat mud flaps response as well:coffee:

I think you are over reacting, Joe. I read his post twice, and nowhere did he bash Harvey. He issued a caution to people to not use both products at the same time. Isn't that what a forum like this should do, warn people to avoid a similar situation?
