I recently purchased a SpyderPops Mud/Rock Guard for my trailer hitch. I also have a Don't Eat Mud mudflap installed. I installed it per SpyderPops instructions. Nowhere on their site or in the instructions does it state NOT to use their product with a mud flap. I rode to DC on Sunday and upon my return notice damage to my rear fender, which will require replacement. I contacted SpyderPops and sent photos. They claim my mudflap did the damage, NOT their product. The mudflap would not damage the fender. So I am stuck with a $400.00 replacement cost. It might be wise to choose one or the other. Below is their response:
Bernard,
We do not advocate adding mud flaps in conjunction with our Hitch Splash
Plates as they work very well alone. It appears that a mud flap with a
chrome emblem was used in conjunction with our Hitch Splash Plate.
It appears that the chrome emblem became lodged between the mud flap and
splash plate. If that is what actually happened then it appears it bucked up
the fender and extended it over the splash plate to cause the damage.
As I first mentioned we have had no incidents of damage with these splash
plates through 100's of applications. The Hitch Splash Plate has been tested
with the stock fender configuration and not with other modifications. Adding
any other flexible modifications that could be affected by wind from the
tire or vibration removes the clearance designed to allow the fender to pass
by the splash plate.
It appears that other modifications are a responsible factor causing the
damage.
Thanks,
Harvey
