• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Want to increase Gas Tank capacity/Mileage Range - any suggestions?

I never tire of looking at that beautiful piece of engineering.
nojoke

That is a beautiful piece of engineering. That setup would be right at home on an aircraft. But I didn't buy the Spyder with a ton of storage in the front to fill it up with gasoline. Instead, I put as much in the tank as I can get and go from there. 196 is as far as I've gotten. Don't remember how much fuel it took but I didn't have any bars left.

Even if BRP could find a way to put another 1/2 gallon on the Spyder it would make progress in the right direction.

I have done 600K+ miles on 2 wheels. This did not come about by stopping every couple of hours. Better MPG? Sure, that would be nice, but it is the tank range! When riding in MT, SD, WY, etc. you have to stop even more often to assure having enough gas. One poster replied with, it's not going to happen. At 77 y.o. I have found we can usually make things happen when we have enough desire.

I apologize for being so abrupt. Let me correct that statement - I should have said, "It is not going to happen without extraordinary measures." A fuel cell or some other auxiliary fuel tank is really your only option. You'll have to choose between range and cargo capacity. I wish you the best in your quest for a solution that works for you.

My Butt Gets Tired! The best I have ever done is 44 MPG on the 2011 RT-L Spyder. My problem is my butt gets tired of sitting and it wants to get some walking in. When I was winging it, our group made it a policy to stop on the hour and get off and shake the wrinkles out. Besides that, I am not in a rush to get anywhere now a days, so why not stop and enjoy the aroma of fresh coffee a couple times in a day's ride?

24 - 26 mpg. 2013 RT-S. (semi auto) Mostly (80%) urban riding. (20%) interstate or back roads riding. No mountains. 93 octane. 10% friggin ethanol. Almost 2,000 miles on spyder thus far. 115 miles average on 4.5 gallons.

I usually get about 230 miles in the city, and a little more that 300 on the highway with the cruise control on. I can stretch it out more with some real conservative driving or the speed limit, which doesn't happen too often.

300???????? 300?????????? did you say 300????? i would have to be ready for my second fillup at 300

Ah, to be young again, when my fuel tank was empty before my bladder was full....

Getting old is hell....

:spyder2:

unless most of the trip is down hill and you are at an idle 200 miles per tank wont happen. we are getting 33-34 mpg and are thrilled with that...

I know, I sound like a broken record.....

I'll just repeat the same comment I make every time the subject of range comes up.

As a recreational vehicle, a range of about 150 miles is OK. When you are going on a long ride, you want to stop every couple of hours anyway, just to stretch your legs, personal hygiene break, etc.

But for a daily commute, especially here in the northeast, 150 miles is pretty poor. That means you are stopping for gas about 3 times a week.

Once again, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Young bucks & Iron butts! At 79 years of age there is no need for additional fuel storage... its fuel up n pee every 150 miles or less (yes, way less lol) or I'm staying home! Ha Ha
Love riding but fuel up n drain often seems to be the program nowadays.

I failed to mention my eyes aren't all that good anymore, I didn't take time to notice posting date and this new site is keeping me out of brothels & jail so it's a good day here. LOL Thanks

I gained better range of miles since last year, and plan to increase the range in the next year or so. How you ask? I'm losing weight. :roflblack:

A little off topic, but there is a spec Miata racing class. A while back a guy was describing how he was cutting off the excess 1/8" or so on bolts throughout the car to reduce weight. The owner of Flyin' Miata, a tuner, responded "Just take a good dump before the race and save the time and effort".
