vibration and engine noise 013 rs

I bought a rs se5 with 15 miles on it, I get a vibration at certain rpms and top end engine noise that comes and goes depending on throttle use. Maybe I'm just to picky but a new machine with all this technology I thought things would be smoother. I have 300 miles on it now, still not a happy camper. Is this normal for this machine or should I complain to the dealer and get some warranty work done??

Hard to say..!!

not knowing your ryding style. If you are not shifting above 4,500 rpm's and cruising there or above you may be feeling and hearing clutch slippage. These are high rpm engines and the SE really needs the attention to this. If you are running at high rpms then you could need belt adjustment or engine mount tightening. If you got this from an individual have the dealer check the vin# for all updates. And then remember your sitting on top of a large twin internal combustion engine and they are not whisper quiet. If any of this helps great if you still feel your having problems take it to the dealer and have them check it out..maybe test ryde theirs and compare...

Thanks for the reply! I have been rideing mostly slow curvey roads in 3rd and 4th gear, some freeway. I got the bike from a dealer with 15 miles on it. I'm trying to keep the rpm up but its hard for me to adjust as I have been rideing Harleys for 47 years. Maybe its just me wanting a perfect machine, probably should have bought a RTmaybe they smoother.

Vibrations

Vibrations are probably coming from the belt as most Spyders do.
A Belt Stabilizer helps. There are a couple of Sponsors that sell them.

Check out Smooth Spyder bet tensioner I really like mine is was very easy to install. The belt on the Spyder is very long and needs the extra support in the middle. jtpollock:2thumbs:

How much vibration? Just one range of RPMs or more? I get a bit of belt vibration at 55mph on my 2013 RS-S. I don't even need to look at the speedo to tell you I just crossed 55mph. But it only happens over the band of 3 to 4 mph and I'm usually accelerating through it.

Agree. Smoothspyder got rid of the majority of my vibration when I had my RS.

I agree Dennis. Ifyour looking for comfort and smoothness probably should have went with the Rt.
I have a 13 rs and do get a a little belt vibration but quickly ride through it. If you have been on 2 wheels with rhe bigger Harleys or Gold Wings then an Rs will not fit the envelope. Could talk with your dealer and see about trading up. It sounds like you will not be happy with the Rs SORRY!!:spyder:

Thanks for the information . The belt probably is my problem will try and narrow down and remember when all this vibration happens (gear, speed rpm etc). Yes, I think I should have bought a RT but didn't want to spend allthe extra money at the time. Live and learn the hard way$$$.

I don't understand the "Should have bought an RT!" sentiment in this thread. If there is a belt problem it wouldn't matter the model. It's not uncommon on any model to have a bit of vibration at a certain speed. If it's a problem you can add a tensioner to resolve it.

Sweet spot on the 998 engine is around 5000 rpm. Slow curvy roads in first or second gear. REV it up!

Rt down the road??

The vibration is not my only concern as the rideing position is not working out for this old body of mine. Going to try st bars first, but I still can take short rides. I haven't gave up yet! I'll get it right one way or another.

you're not alone dennis

it's not a good riding position, but the st bars should make a huge improvement. i've put 12 thousand miles on my gs, and i'm still maxed out at 150 miles. a nice windshield will help too. highway pegs and or floorboards will help alot too with comfort.

I bought my RS-S SE5 in 2011 and it took about 3,000 miles till the motor to quiet down then I changed my oil to a 10w-40 full synthetics motorcycle oil and the motor was quieter. They are a little noisier due to they are a higher rpm motor. The Spyders are different from anything I have ever rode. It takes a while to get enough seat time to get it smooth and fast on the back roads. It helps to use high octane gas. If you have feel free to PM me.

Mike

Congrats on the new bike , haven't done it myself yet but look into that smooth spyder belt tensioner the belt on these bikes are huge and do get a lot of resonance on a lower rpm

Enjoy the bike there a blast, it will take some times getting used to it coming from 2 wheels.

wrong rpm??

Thanks for all posts you guys, I understand what your saying about rpm and gears, I'm going to try and ride a different way next time out. It's going to be hard to break old habits! Dennis:
