VERY MAD..and an empty trailer!!!

So I was called by Carlo and my dealer to come pick up my ready to ride "NEW DPS installed" Spyder today. Drove 100 miles "ONE WAY". Got there and started it up for it to warm up to go ride it before haulin it back home. Well what do you think I saw when I turned the key on. "CHECK DPS"!! So tech hooked it up to Buds and it says dps failure, solution "REPLACE"....7 WEEKS IT HAS ALREADY BEEN THERE. So 100 miles back home with an empty trailer and 1 VERY TICKED SPYDER OWNER.

For any spyder owners in GA, I checked and lemon law doesn't cover motorcycles here. It just really burns me to be paying $300 a month for something I don't even have in my possession, much less might/could kill me if I did.

I have a call into Carlo to see what to do from here. Just don't know what to do....REDICULOUS!!!

How long did your dealer say it would be for the new DPS to arrive? Can they overnight it?

Did they not test ride it first?

This is ridiculous. I'd be fuming too! So sorry to hear about your Spyder problems.

Thanks SpyderGirl

Carlo should be telling people when he calls that they are replacing the DPS but not to expect it to work. May take a couple different ones before it does.

No problem, I'm on your side here. And I am a firm believer that it should get fixed right the first time. Hopefully it'll get resolved quickly and you can get back to riding. It sucks paying for something you're getting no use out of. :gaah:

Ok, let me know what you think about this!

Carlo just called, said he spoke to the dealer. He said that just because it showed check dps once that it is fine. He said, his words"Dust could have throwed the code"....So apparently they aren't putting another one in and I am to come get it when I can. I don't know what to think about that, how can it show that code if there is nothing wrong with that part??:gaah:

Make sure they zeroed out the steering and have them check the SAS. My guess is that is bad too.

How do I know this? because I just drove to my dealer to pick up my Spyder today that had the DPS replaced. I got about 15 miles from their shop when it went into limp mode and started running real bad. I call the shop and they sent a truck and trailer to pick me up and check the codes. By time they got there it had reset itself but this has happened to them once before and it was a bad Steering Angle Sensor so they will replace it asap. I'm a little disappointed but I'm happy that it did show up on the BUDS. At least they know what to replace.

By the way it was 70 miles one way for me. I've got too many friends with real problems for me to consider this a big deal. nojoke

Thanks Lamont, I will relay that when I speak to them. They have closed for today, will talk to them first thing in the morning.

Have they done all of that to yours(Lamont) or they still have it? If you don't have it back yet, post when you do letting everyone know how it is doing..

That SUCKS!

Did they test ride it! Nope, and you wanna hear why? This is the best part, "It was too cold"...It has been no lower than 50 degrees here, yesterday and today it has been 60.:dontknow:

They should have at least turned the :cus: thing on! I was taught that in USAF tech school; that is the last step in troubleshooting/repair; ops check the system. Didn't need that taught to me, kind of common sense to me.:dontknow:

Just dropped mine off today to have the GPS changed out. Asked the dealer to check the sprocket for the spline wear while he's there. Figured he would, but ya never know, I have seen some repair places take a worn out part off, replace whatever is behind it, then re-install the worn out part. But I better talk good about my dealer, he hangs around on this board.:D Not that I need to make things up, he's treated me well since I bought the bike.

I think under the circumstances that they should deliver free of charge. A 200 mile trip that THEY said you should do to pick it up and then not to have ops checked it is ridiculous for sure. I guess I'm a little bit of a pr**k about that stuff. I'd demand that they deliver it, or reimburse me for time and fuel.....or they'd have one less customer and enough bad press to make them wish they had.
Our dealership went over 50 miles to a customer that had purchased a new 1400 Intruder and called first thing the morning after. He worked the 3rd shift and when he came out that morning, the bike wouldn't start. He was fuming. We sent 2 guys over with a truck to load it and when they got there noticed that someone had flipped the kill switch while it was parked. Flipped the switch and...surprise! He was embarassed and we had a truck and 2 employees travel 50+ miles in one direction for the owners stupidity. He was never charged a cent and it was his lack of reading the owners manual/common observation. So I would have to insist that they deliver it.

Some of the problems with the DSP lies with the dealer not jacking the Spyder up to take the load off the bike, then they adjust the BUDS system items. This happened to me when I picked up my bike. The Tech didn't do his job correctly.

Sorry to hear about your problems. Mine had 3 new DPS units installed before they got a good one and almost all of the sensors too. It seems to be fine now though. I checked the miles on mine before I dropped it off and again when I picked it up just to make sure they had test ridden it and made sure it was safe for me to ride home. They did a great job and so far I am happy with it. Hang in there... but I don't blame u I would be mad too because I also have to drive 100 miles one way to the dealer. Hope you get it back soon.

After you get this fixed, are there any other dealers you can go to? 50 degrees too cold? :yikes: when mine was fixed my dealer took it out and it was cool then up here in CT. He test rides everything after working on it. And if they can't give you an ETA as to when the part is supposed to arrive, I'd be talking to BRP. So sorry you are going through this. I hope you don't have to wait long for a dps. If it were me, I'd go right back to that dealer or call them and demand they do whatever they could to get a dps as soon as possible. Remember - squeaky wheel gets the grease.

IS HE ON CRACK???????????? DO NOT TAKE IT BACK - THAT IS B.S.! :yikes:

agreed, sorry to hear about this... however, I think I'd stick around the dealer until something was done about, ie: they called and got confirmation on a shipping and ETA for new unit, or something.... waiting that long, only having to wait again.... for an unknown period of time. Sounds like the dealer and techs are not doing their due diligence, to me.

Hope you get up and running soon.

What is SAS?

How many times have your Spyder broken down, needing dealer tech attention?

stgilmer:Hope they fix your spyder soon! Sounds ridiculous to me.
