V-strom 650 for my troubles(limp mode)

Back into a limp mode today along with erratic power steering loss. Leaving work made it half way home...then limp mode appeared. Someone just had to jinx me today when they asked how it's been running. Todays problems couldn't be remedied by turning off the ignition for a short time. I took it in and was given a DL650 V-strom, we start the legal process tomorrow. We will consider a new machine and if not, then lemon law process starts and the lender will be contacted. Dear lender, due to the poor performance of this item, you are going to take a bath...you may want to consider this before lending on another Spyder.:dontknow:

So very sorry to hear that! I hope the legal remedies go quickly and smoothly for you. You have suffered long enough!!!

This is nuts. I wish BRP had stepped in already! You definitely deserve to be compensated for your troubles. Good luck!

After all that, How do you like the V-Strom?
That is what I am ridding now cause the wife wont share her :spyder2:.

A V-strom 650 is my second bike and as far as bikes go it is one of my all time favorites. Very comfortable straight outta the dealer and doesn't require a lot of farkeling. It would fall just behind the KLR650 as my favorite bike.

I got my 650 about 4 years ago as a comuter bike. Then my wife got a Yamaha 650 v-star to ride on weekends. She never felt good about her riding skills on the 650 and did not ride it much. Then along came the :spyder2:.

Now on weekends we get to ride all over. With me on my v-strom trying to keep up with the speed demin on the :spyder2:.

Like my v-strom , but can't wait to sell it and get a :spyder2:.

ATMJIM, I hope the dealer and finance company step up and resolve this fast so you can get back out on a Spyder.

The V-Strom rides nice and comfy, a little squirly at slow speed cornering from the effect of a tall saddle/high CG. Feels a little too low on power, I would consider a 1000 with the suzuki side cases.
Have checked and swapped relays and the dealer has too, but that doesn't mean they are good now. They have chased wires and examined connectors. I told the dealership I don't care if they fix it or not, I am NOT accepting this unit back. The call has been put in that I will take a new SM5 or lemon law...that's their only choice and I am informing the lender. I am waiting a few days for a response.

You have definitely been going through this way too long:(. I agree with the others - it's time BRP steps up and you get another SM5. One would think they watch this board. Heck, it's the most popular :spyder:board around and ya think they'd see all your posts for Gawd knows how long you've been posting about this!

I hope it all works out - I think they made some bum :spyder: but they all aren't like that (knock on wood). Just worries me that you've been going through this for so long and they should have just given you a replacement a while ago.

So if they don't replace, how does the lemon law work? What do you have to do?

I would like to think that BRP would jump at the chance to get a so troubled spyder, to really find the problem or problems and insure those issues are carefully corrected and noted or dealers trick of fixes so customers don't have to go through all the problems.
Just my thought.

I braved the spring monsoon we were experiencing today to go take a close look at what all is available these days. I seemed to feel a little relief that this spyder experience may all be behind me. I went to check out the Buells first, but I am struggling to much with the looks of the Rotax 1125 CR and sport. The CR got me going a little, but it's hard to get past those radiator scoops both Rotax share, it would be so good looking to my eyes otherwise. There is so much out there for sale right now, but so few I would consider. Since the SV is still there, I thought about finishing what I started and buying the luggage and risers for it. I was held back from visiting all the shops I wanted to because of weather, but this is going to take some time...I don't want to go full sport or full cruiser, the FJR and Concours seem to big and bulky now. Very few machines are fitting the bill and some of those I am not liking. I found myself sitting on the spyders at the end of the day, this sucks.
I am still not sure how this is going to pan out, we did find our rep for the area and he had no knowledge of my machines problems due partially to some personel changes and repositioning. After being brought up to speed, he forwarded my spyder history to his boss along with my personal info and intentions. They know I am not accepting this machine and it meets 2 options for Arizona Lemon Law. I'll know more hopefully before Wednesday.

Good point. They should be chomping at the bit to get it and disect it.

Jim,
I sure hope they take care of you. You are obviously drawn to the spyder as you keep trying and as you mentioned were sitting on the new ones. I realize you have had an extraordinary string of bad luck with this machine, but if you look at the poll Lamont posted, you are actually in the minority. It would be so nice if BRP makes this right by you and you got a new machine that did not have problems and you could once again truly enjoy the spyder as it is meant to be enjoyed. Please keep us posted. By the way, if you do have to go with a 2 wheeler, that V Storm is a pretty nice choice.

This is really ridiculous. I get a call from my dealer saying he has an email asking me to call Person Y at XXX-XXX-XXXX. So I call and it's just a BRP help line. After some confusion I tell her "Okay, just stop" and I ratlle off a quick scenario of everything thats happened and I got a message to call her. She has no idea why, she's try to look through her "BRP tech notes" and go back through my history which she can't make any sense of. I told her I was at work and didn't have time for this, call the Tucson rep or my dealer and ask for the email they sent for any info she needs. Great job BRP:helpsmilie:!

You're living the saying, "when it rains, it pours" with a smattering of "no good deed goes unpunished". :yikes:
