• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Use for PTT Button ??

I don't have the CB and likely will never get (want) one. I was a Radio Shack manager in the 70's and I still have my fill of CB's...

Anyway, being an electronics geek (RS Mgr!), the beautiful PTT button is driving me nuts. Has anyone else adapted it to another use?

Thanks for your responses...

Maybe a train engine air horn :yikes::roflblack: That would wake up the drivers that don't see us

Not being an electronics geek, I may have no idea about what is possible, but can tell you this: that button is wired into the main console instrument cluster & associated computer(s). My 2010's PTT button had a delay when released & my CB continued to transmit for several seconds. To fix that problem, BRP swapped out the instrument cluster with a 2011 model. That's a $900+ part to fix a PTT delay problem.

What does that mean to someone trying to come up with an alternate use for the button? Maybe nothing. Maybe something. Just something that may be worth some thought...

Mine opens the garage door. I wired it to a mini-remote and push the button on the way down the street and up goes the door.

Sorry Dave, I gotta call BS on that one. :roflblack:
Just cause I owned a RadioShack franchise for over 20 years. Don't recall that mod in our SOP.

Here is where the idea came from. You needed to look in the back of the Radio Shack catalog to see this

Garage or Horn

Dave, Love the garage door idea. If I come down to Fla will you hook one up for me? :D

Or would like to swap my horn to that button and discontinue the existing horn button which I often hit by mistake when reaching for the turn signal.

God how many times have I done that only to be embarrassed with all the traffic around me.

As I recall; this was kicked around last year a bit too... It was felt by most who had an opinion, that the PTT button was too "hooked-in" to the computers and electrical system to allow for it to be split out for a different function...
...But since I can barely change batteries in a flashlight; let's hear some more about this!

:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:..........I ddn't think anyone even remembered catalogs. How about free flashlights and "Battery of the month club"?

When I was a kid I was a member of the battery of the month club and also built a crystal radio from the Radio Shack electronic kits. I drove my parents nuts because for the antenna we use to find copper wire at a local dump and run it all over the roof of my parents house just to get the best reception we could.

:popcorn::popcorn: Still waiting to see how you disconnected the PTT button from the system without causing the computers to get nervous...

I too was a manager at Radio Shack from 1979-1984. I was manager of the store in the Independence Mall, Trenton, N.J. I was also the manager of the store in the Echelon Mall, Deptford,N.J. They were fun times, but lots of hours.
