There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Update & 2nd Update issue; Steering LockUp WHILE going 70mph

I Just got my Update and 2nd Update done last week. Lousy weather here in NewEngland did not give me the oportunity to drive the Spyder.
Today I did.
Whoa... Started off fine. Engine purred fine even since it was only 41degrees outside. (thats a first for me... 55 is usually my low limit).
BUT when I go on the highway, when I reach speeds over 50, like 65-70mph, I noticed I was slightly drifting to the right towards the edge on my lane on a 4 lane highway. (breakdown lane next to me on the right.)
I attempt a slight correction to the steer to the left, and it was stuck. At least THREE different times this occured!!! Imagine if your shoe lace was caught and tied to the steering. I had to give it a jerk and the DPS backed off and let me adjust my line of driving. This happened TWO more times. But some other times when going 70, I could not repeat it.

This concerns me bid time. I did notice it was ALWAYS a stuck steering that only allowed right movement not left.

Anyone else seen this? Ideas?

Strange, this is exactly what update 1 was supposed to correct. It needs to be reported to the NHTSA so they know the recall solution isn't working. I hope everyone who has experienced steering issues, either before or after the update, will report their problems in detail to the NHTSA. I also am concerned that a lot of people have suddenly reported steering anomalies, but few have said they took they Spyder to their dealer. I hope everyone realizes that this is necessary, even if unpalatable. They can't fix it if they don't get their hands on it. Can't troubleshoot it either. Please report your problems and take your Spyder in for repairs, as many times as is necessary!

That is why mine is at the dealer right now. I called to check on it today and they didn't know what was up w/ it yet. I filed the NHTSB report too.

Also interesting that it happened right after the updates. I still wonder if some dealers are not following proper update procedures.

:agree::agree:my second update appears to have taken well only about 100 miles since done but I plan to put a fast 100 today before work no steering issues as of yet but keeping my thumb close to kill switch for now :ani29:

I have an 09 and haven't even had a hint of trouble in 4750 miles. I've had both updates done, about six weeks apart.

Many of us are having steering issues - good you posted it on that website. I posted mine yesterday. Mine happened in TN and my bad, should have posted it as soon as I got home but I thought in order to post you had to have something to do w/ your dealer. But you don't so I went on last night.

I am wondering, is this even update related or is it a hardware thing, just wish someone knew because you had both updates done and it happened.

Mine happened twice BEFORE both updates. I rode it home from TN ok but I was a nervous wreck. I haven't ridden it much since.

Steering lock-up - - add me to the list

Same cold outside condition (low 40's), same speed (70-75mph), except steering lock-up in opposite direction and slightly different-no drifting.

Lane bending to the right and bike did not want to go right - stuck - quick sharp force ("jerk") of handlebars required to turn right and then (of course) had to correct to left in order to stay in lane. Happened over and over again on this ride home - exactly the same way.

If going to the left all was great.

Yes I have just recently had both updates.

My next night ride over this same route, temperature only in the 50s, and the Spyder drove normally.

Could be temperature/speed related or random. Time will tell since lower temperatures are coming but for the next few days a heat wave is here.

Was the road heavily crowned so that the Spyder was leaning?
