• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

CarPlay Froze, then entire Head Unit Froze Up While Riding, then supposedly updated and rebooted on the Highway - Anyone else had this happen?

So I was on the highway today, and the CarPlay display froze up. It's happened a few times before, but usually within 30 seconds or so of starting up. This was 20 minutes into a highway ride. No biggie, I figured I'd switch over to the normal gauge display for a bit. Then the entire screen froze up. Had portions of the speedometer and tachometer showing, but wasn't updating. No speedometer, no tach, nothing.

Then briefly in the upper right corner it flashed something about a Bluetooth Failure of some kind. I rode about 10 minutes with the half-showing gauges with no updates. Figured once I got home I'd take a picture for reference. Then the entire head unit rebooted, and when it came up it said it had updated to BRP Connect x.x.x and that another restart was required for full audio. How in the world did it perform a head unit update while going 70MPH down the highway? I'm not even sure if that version it displayed was what I had before or not, I couldn't possibly get any pictures of it at the time. ACP worked after the highway reboot and it seemed OK after that.

Anyone else had this happen?
 
Usually you have to specifically tell it to check for updates, so that is odd.
But if it was bluetooth paired to your phone then it might have used it's connection to download an update? Yeah, I'm grasping at straws.

Did you check to see what version it's running now?
I believe BRP Connect 4.1 is the latest, which did include some Apple CarPlay updates.

Ya, I believe you may have something here if it was trying to update it had to have a solid connection for the update, hopefully on your home network, and don't pull away till it's done!! If by some way it was hooked up to the phone and taking the update and you dropped into a hole and it broke connection, then you could have messed up the download. Try to do an update thru your home router and let it run to the end, or use your phone in your garage and let it run till the end!!! Good luck!! :unsure:

I was 100 miles from home when this oddness happened and had been riding for a few hours. No idea how it could have possibly sucked down an update. And there were no update progress dialogs, usually it goes black and there's a status bar going across the screen. Definitely not like any other updates I have installed.

Still says 4.1.0. Which I'm pretty sure is what I had because I updated it a few weeks ago. It's the version that has NORMAL showing up by the speedometer now.
 
Guessing here - something failed in the software and it autoupdated to the latest version so it could keep working.

That would seem way over the pay grade of the system, given how many basic issues it has connecting, but perhaps this was a failsafe of some kind.

I think this is possible because you believe the firmware didn't change.

I suspect a failsafe as you say. There's no way it could have downloaded new firmware while on the road and I never saw the expected firmware updating warnings/screen either. This thing is fickle enough trying to get on my home WiFi and download an update, there's zero chance it did it on its own on I-85 :). I think it just spazzed out, and a watchdog/failsafe process decided the only way to save itself was to reboot.

I took it out for a while yesterday and had no issues so unless this becomes a common occurrence I won't worry about it too much.
 
I've been on the current software version since it came out in July. And yes, both before and after that update, I've had that happen, multiple times, though I haven't always noticed if there was an Updated msg. Frustrating when I lose my routing software and my music. But I know the system will eventually correct itself, either a reboot while I'm riding or restart at my next stop. I've learned not to panic when my screen totally freezes or goes blank and then reboots. Frustrating for sure but I've always got my Garmin for backup on routing and I can handle not having music for a while so I just live with it and dream that some day CanAm will have reliable software.
