There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Unstable idle.

This may be normal but just thought I would ask, my Ducati and Buell both have pretty unstable idle but much lower rpm and both have pipes and are re-mapped.
My 2011 RS when cold and for the first few miles has an unstable idle fluctuating between about 1250-1500 rpm, after warmed up all the way it's a little better staying up near 1500 but still rolling a little. My other twins idle at about 750-800 rpm.
NORMAL ?

Sort of normal. The idle shouldn't be "unstable". Do you wait to move off until you have two bars on the temperature gauge? Yeah, it's weird for a FI motor to have to warm up. But if you wait until 2 bars, the idle is nice and steady. ooops, I misunderstood the question. Sorry. Listen to doc. He knows more than all of us combined.

My 08 GS always idle at 1350- 1450, Nature of the beast.
Can't compare it to other bikes. :dontknow:

I don't think it's anything to worry about. Like Doc said, mention to your dealer at the 600 mile service.

1250-1500 is out of spec, but not by much. When it settles down, it should be 1400 plus or minus 50. It may vary a bit more until it warms up. Mention it to your dealer, but it is not very far off.

Shouldn't be riding until it's warmed up to 1-2 bars..... Idle varies on these beasts....

yeah...mine goes from 1350 to 1450 when idling...I never really check it unless I'm at a light...likely it has even a larger range when just started...

I wouldn't worry about idling range unless the bike is stalling or racing...

Thanks for the input, sounds like it's pretty much normal, I have not been letting it warm to 2 bars before riding either so maybe it doesn't like that.
I was just wondering since it is quite a bit higher idle than what I'm used to with my other bikes.

Spyder likes higher RPMs than most bike you'd be used to. 5,000 +- for normal cruising.

It's just clearing its throat and getting ready to sing... :2thumbs:
(Mine starts out at about 1700, but settles in a the correct 1400rpm or so within seconds...)

My 2010 RS has always been like that even after the "purge valve bypass" (can't remember what it's called). But, after removing and plugging that hose I am able to give it a little juice after 10-15 seconds or so and it smooths right out. Also able to take off without waiting for 2 bars or so with no stumble or risk of flooding.
