$25 for a spring, you've got to be kidding. I got a med tension spring about 2.5 inches long and .5 inches wide from Ace Hardware and slipped it over the latch stud after replacing the washer with a slightly larger one so the spring has a base. The spring stays in place by coiling around the two nuts but you could slip the spring partially under the washer also.
