Trailers, which one do you own and why?

Looking for a trailer for my 2012 RT limited, I know BRP sells a beautiful one, advise on alternative trailers you feel are a good fit and why.

The RT-622 is more than beautiful, it is by far and away the best handling trailer I have ever owned. I have never seen a small trailer absorb bumps this well...you never feel them at all, which is unusual. Tracks well, looks good, holds an amazing amount, and absorbs the bumps like a hovercraft. It also gets about 2-4 mpg better than my Aspen Sentry camper. What's not to like? Very worthy of consideration, despite the price. JMHO

I own the Aspen Sentry. I like the extra room for gear, a place for a cooler and the queen bed. It takes minutes to set up and take down, tows like a rock star, only knocks the MPG by a few. That ablaut sums it up. I carry a smallish electric heater for those crispy mornings.

these are the two trailers that I built to use with my spyder

Being "Trailer-Curious" at this stage, (Just not to the check-writing portion yet!), What would I have ot look out for in a 622 trailer so that I can make sure that it'll mate up to my 2010 RT with a minimal amount of wiring headaches??

:agree: 100% Even fully loaded I barely notice It's behind me.

:agree::agree::agree: My 622 is a dream on the highway. It's integrated with the Spyder in both function and design. Love it.

I appreciate the all the information, thank you. On the RT-622 what was the extra cost to install the hitch, wiring etc from the RT Spyder to the trailer?

A 2010-2012 RT-622 hooks up readily, as long as you have the 2010-2012 factory hitch/harness. For a 2013 hitch/harness with an early trailer, you would need to change the connector on the trailer to a square-4. For a 2013 trailer with the 2013/hitch/harness, it is a direct fit. For a 2013 trailer with the early harness, you would need to fabricate an adapter.

The hitch and wiring module retails for around $500, as I recall. Labor would be extra if you don't install it yourself. It is plug-n-play, with good instructions.

If you are purchasing from a dealer try to get an out the door price. Trailer + hitch+ install + other accessories for trailer i.e. spare tire, trailer tongue stand, cargo net system & cargo load stabilizer with the price of the trailer registration. Requirements (varies by state) CA. it's like $35 and good for 5 years. It will also come with its own warranty from date of purchase.

and if you are going to customize, this would be a good time to do it as well; Bigger the package the better to negotiate.

Also look into getting a third brake light, as it can be visually seen over your trailer.

and something to lock it up when you leave it at your lodging destination.

I had a Json Ion trailer for a number of years, I pulled it with my Goldwing then the spyder. I liked the look and cargo space of the ion, not a cheap trailer fully loaded but it had torson bar suspension.

While on a bumpy field at the Magoog Spyder rally my trailer bounced around like it was on a trampoline. I saw the BRP RT-622 float like it was on air I just had to get one. I sold the ion which I sort of regret but didn't have room for both. I purchased a brand new left over 2010 RT-622 for under 2k. Had it color matched and love the way it pulls. I get better gas mileage with the BRP than I did with the ion.

Look around there are still some left overs around, there was one on eBay a few days back for $2.500.

call around and haggle, that's what I did and got a great deal.

:agree: with all of the comments made about the RT622 trailer...............easy to pull (you don't even know it's back there), tracks well, plenty of room, etc. etc. etc. It might be pricy but worth it!:2thumbs:

Thanks, Scotty!
Not being fluent at all in the language of wiring; I figured that it was best to consult the experts first!

622

Spend time and look around, we got ours last year. It's a brand new 2010, got it for 1600 from dealer in washington. Even with shipping it was a steal. Wouldn't pull anything else.

I sold my $6000.00 Bushtec to keep the RT-622. I like just about everything about it but mostly the looks. It completes the package. The Bushtec did tow better but not enough for me to keep it over the styling.
