Trailer Insurance Question???

For those that tow a trailer with your Spyder. Do you have insurance on the trailer? Is this a add on to your motorcycle policy. Curious as to i just pick up a 622 and want to make sure Im covered before I head out with it.

I'm 99.99% sure the Mtc. coverage includes the trailer ...........................But you have just made me go an look :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:......Mike :thumbup:

I have my insurance with Allstate with my trailer covered under my auto policy. When I was with Geico it was covered under the MC policy. Check with your insurance company.

I have a RT622 trailer and I had it covered under my MC policy as an accessory. There was no classification for the trailer only. I just had to increase my coverage to include the trailer. It didn't really raise the premium all that much. I believe I'm covered for about $5000 or so for accessories that I add to the spyder.

I have a policy on my Bunkhouse camper so if it is alone in a campground and were to light a fire I would be covered. Ask your insurance company if your trailer should uncouple and hit a vechicle, would you be covered. :riding:

i was going to say that mine is covered under my auto policy but I don't get an insurance card for it so I believe that it is actually under my homeowners coverage.

I have mine covered by State Farm with my motorcycle that way it is covered even if it is not hooked up to the bike
that raised my rate by $1 a month

Thanks for the info. I have Progressive. I called them and they treat it as an accessory. So I will just bump up my accessory coverage. Funny how some folks have it covered under other policies.

mine is separate policy & $26 for 6 months w/state farm.

Trailers for liability reasons are covered by the towing vehicle. If you want coverage comp and collision. It could be covered as part of your accesory coverage or as a separate rider depends on the company

Here in Aust, if you only want coverage for the value of the trailer itself (& not for anything in or on it!!) you can get that included in your car policy to cover you while the trailer is connected to the tow vehicle, but not when it is disconnected!! Lotsa people get suckered in by that one, thinking their trailer '& contents' are covered by their car/bike policy, even when it's disconnected from the car.... Yeah, don't ask how I know this, but I do!!! :sour:

So here in Aust, if you want your trailer covered for more than just the value of the trailer itself, &/or coverage that applies while the trailer isn't hitched to your tow vehicle (even if you've just disconnected it to leave it in the Motel car park you are staying at on your hols while you take the 'tug' to go to a restaurant in the city centre), you'll need to take out a separate 'Touring Trailer' or 'Caravan' policy to cover your trailer & its contents in addition to your vehicle policy. Generally, they are not too expensive, especially if you've got an auto policy with the insurance company; they usually only cost around $50 or so for a total trailer & contents/load value of up to about $2k, or maybe about $150-$200ish to cover you for a trailer & contents/load value of $10k or so. Mobile homes valued at more than $50k or so can start getting more exxy, especially if you take them remote or off road, but they are still usually around half the cost of a similar valued motor vehicle - I guess cos they tend to spend less time on the road & more time in the owners back yard with the family (guard) dog sleeping under it! :thumbup:
