• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I am weighing the possibility of trading in my ST-S. Does anyone have an idea how much I could expect to (or should except) for it in a dealer trade? It's an almost new 2014 STS SM5 (Cognac). It has just at 600 miles. No major upgrades and a three year warranty that started this past October.

I would check ebay or cycletrader to see what pre-owned bikes are selling for. you will be offered less than the lowest priced for sale.

If I had to guess based on NADA, 10k or less unless you sell privately, or, they overcharge you for a new one. Negotiate the price of the new one before you mention the trade.

KBB trade in is $10,800 and they act like they are doing you a favor giving you KBB trade. They will offer you less. The dealer will then list it for 16-17k.

Check this out- 13.5k new old stock

Most dealers underprice your trade in as much as they can. They have no problem asking for a 2K to 4K markup when they attempt to re-sell it. NADA or Kelly Blue Book are good places to start.

They also try to compare your trade in against the actual MSRP for the unit you are planning on purchasing.

It's the actual price you end up paying out the door that will determine a good deal vs. a not so good deal.

Accessories and low mileage usually count for nothing. High mileage on the other hand, will tend to penalize you.

Thanks. I may wait until next years models come out. I just bought it in October and while I put a decent down payment down and won't be upside down, I can't bring myself to lose a big chunk on the trade.

I do like that F3 though :banghead:

I don't blame you. I have had 12 BRP jet skies and 3 Spyders and the dealers (Now A days) Don't want to give you anything anymore and Private sales are No Picnic because everyone expects you to just about "Give it to them?"
You really can't blame the dealers because used or new Spyders aren't selling like "HotCakes" the last time I looked?

If you haven't put the BajaRon swaybar on your STS I bet it would make a Big difference in your ride!!!
That's a Nice looking STS!

Hi Sarge707,

Re: nadaguides.com/Motorcycles

I went there to see what they listed for my '08. Anyone know why the yellow version is worth $400 more? :yikes:

Is it based on the color, or b/c you have an SE? Could it be possible the one listed for $400 more is a PE?

Hey Bob D

Bob, aren't you and I supposed to be talking Chris out of this? I almost feel guilty for not speaking up.......:roflblack::roflblack:

Hi wyliec,

Re: Is it based on the color

Apparently. It merely said: Yellow => + $400

I 'might' understand something like this on a new, unsold machine but not something 8 yrs old.

It makes no sense to me,

Jerry Baumchen

PS) Just to be clear: Not a PE or anything else.

No worries. I don't think it's in the cards this season. I'm going to take my STS to Spyderfest and be happy. Maybe next year. I tried to call Pitbull, but they must be busy planning. I've been told 3 times someone would get back to me, and they never do. I think it's a sign - either that or my wife calls right behind me and tells them not to call me back. :yikes:

on the 08s the yellow was a 400 option. I know bought one 17600 out the door after waiting a year for it to be made

76k later sold for 8500

Talk to Len at Spyderfest, he will give you a fair shot.

Cruzr Joe

I've called a few times...they say they will be in touch, but haven't as of yet. I'm sure they are busy planning for SF. Will see what happens when we get there. Looking forward to meeting all the folks on here. I got my cigars and bourbon ready to share

RE: Certain colors worth more e.g. 2008 Yellow +400. I was under the impression that the red and yellow were the standard colors in 08 and there was a premium price for half moon silver. May be an error in the blue book?
IMO: I believe the issue is just a moot point now.

Special values for a Premier Edition, Special color schemes (Stealth) etc. can sometimes garner the additional asking price because they are new and "special." When it comes to resale value, I think the glamor is long gone. I had both a half moon silver 2008 and a Premier Edition RTS (#474) and I received absolutely no extra for the value on either. I did get a snicker when I tried though. :roflblack:

The premier editions in '08 were either yellow or silver. Both selling for the same price. (as far as my dealer was concerned) The red didn't come out till late in the fall of '08.
My '08 PE #2888, just turned eight years old this week. after waiting 10 months for it after ordering it.
