TOO MUCH HEAT - not again!

SpyderPops/Lamonster Heat fix

My endorsement for SpyderPops Heat shields
Kim & I had the SpyderPops RT heat shield installed on both our machines in Maggie Valley. We both have agreed that this is the "Big Fix" for the foot and ankle frying we have all endured in hot weather. They work and work very well, with no noticable engine temp increase. We have ridden about 500 miles since having them installed in temp ranges from 70's to high 90's. Did I mention? They look good as well. $22 plus shipping.. Incredible, thanks and way to go SpyderPops and Lamonster/the designer.... Len & Kim cruisin' on down the road with a cool right foot!!!

Just installed both yesterday, so I cannot give an opinion on their performance yet, but the install was pretty easy. Not to keen on messing with the brake linkage for the CAT install, but I think I did it right. I guess I will know at the first stop sign:yikes:. I was thinking during the install that it would be cool to have an open/close option on this cover, kind of like the vent on the Weber grills. There are times up here in Wisconsin where the heat on the right foot is pretty welcome. It is easy enough to take off, but changing on the fly would be cool. Lamonster, perhaps you can steal another cookie sheet and fab up something like that:2thumbs:

We did the heat shield...... unnoticeable difference.
also put on the side shields .....cat heat is HOT yet. (you could fry bacon on the right side)
we're looking into other ways to keep heat off right side.

I shot temps with the heat shield on and to me it was a very noticeable difference. You can't fry bacon at 106 degrees max.
http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27202

if you slice it thin enough you can!
by the way, heat was over 150.

i'll just be quiet for a while, since i obviously don't know squat!!!!!!

So if it was 150 with the shield on what was it with it off? I'm not saying you don't know squat I'm just showing you my documented results. If you have different results then lets try and figure out why.
Figured I'd register and say hi.

Now, to attempt to unscrew the miscommunications out a little. Gypsie was actually talking about the heat from the cat being able to fry bacon. Lamonster was talking about the radiator air outflow. Different animals require different calibers.

The heat on the pegs is a bit extreme. Even with Spyderpops converter shields on. It does not block the radiant heat for the whole SUPPORT DR *SUPPORT RH (where the pegs mount).

Took some temp readings today.

Even though the left side temps seem high, they aren't nearly as bothersome as the right.

And the radiator air block shield from Spyderpops works as advertised. Gypsie saying otherwise is because I didn't explain clearly enough.

As for the miscommunication about the heat from the Spyder, everyone involved contributed.

I have bought a heat shield from Spyderpops, but have not installed it. Do I also need a cat shield? I ride solo on my RT-S and only feel the heat on my right leg when on the foot peg...but not for long...too hot. Where is the cat located...I have never looked...under the Spyder?

:spyder2:

I can tell you what I did. 1. Installed the FanCan from ISCI. Pulled the bottom splash pan as sugested by Spyderpops and then installed their cover plate. Major heat removal from feet area. Temp on bike as original in 90 deg. days. Very happy with the combo. Bob

Ditto. I agree 100% and have the same setup on my RT. The combo works great!!

Thanks for the follow-up....good job

This is really a problem. that is no reason why BRP is not trying to address this. If one person saids it,s look like a duck another person saids you walk like a duck in that case you must be a duck. If you pay $30,000 for a bike the last thing you want to have to do is go buy something. I support spyderprops don't get me wrong I am glad somebody else try to step up to the problem. Do you realize how many post about the heat problem. I am reading one post when one gentleman said he did not realize how hot it was because he did not have feeling in his right leg into he seen a whole and his leg from the heat. So there is a problem. I don't understand why they cannot make the ducks shoot away from you it seems to me you can add an extension we should do a class action lawsuit. Some people say wear boots it's proper gear. If I wanted to wear boots in the summertime i would of got a two wheeled my feet don't touch the ground. And when I brought the bike dealer did not tell me I need to wear boots because it is a extremely hot on this side of the bike. It is a problem that's why they changed the 2013 bike. ""

Class action lawsuit plain and simple
I know this has been beaten to death based on doing searches on the forum. However, I am still confused as to the best solution. Several posters have different years and models of the Spyder and I am getting confused as to which is the BEST solution for my 2011 RT Limited.

Several previous posters have also indicated they would post their results, but I often don't find what they determined after doing the install.

I did not notice the heat on my right side foot and leg the first few times I rode when the temperature was under 85 or so or if it was there, it did not bother me.

Today, I had it out for an extended ride. It was in the lower 90's with very high humidity. Most of the trip was "on the move" with limited Stop time. Temperature gauge never got much over half for any extended period of time.

By the time I got back home, I really noticed how hot my right foot and leg were. The whole side of the bike was extremely hot.

Even after parking it in my garage after about 10 minutes I went to get my keys out of the glove box and almost burned my hands from the heat that had worked up from the bike into the glove box to the keys!

My questions:

1. Do any of you "pro's" know if BRP is doing anything to solve this problem for current owners. It is apparently a definite design/engineering issue based on all the complaints. (As more new riders are getting into the HOT time of the season I suspect there will continue to be calls for help.)

2. Is there a REAL solution? Again, I have seen several vendors promoting solutions. My question is do they REALLY work? Don't they just divert the heat to another area of the bike causing a problem there.

3. Do you need to do all 3 (Exhaust tape, bottom shield and radiator deflector) to solve the problem and do they actually solve it or just mitigate it?)

4. Does installing any of these items, (heat tape, special covers/shields) void either the standard or Extended BEST warranty?

Again, I am only looking for answers from those that know if these work on a 2011 RT SE5, not older different models as I am not sure the design is identical.

Thanks all for your time and responses. :-)

Class action lawsuit plain and simple

Aren't those filed when a group has knowingly been wronged or injured due to neglect? I don't see that here. Would really like to see BRP provide a final solution, but don't see a class action going anywhere!

Nope!

Simply put. If a doctor removed my right leg when it was supposed to have been the left. Then I would consider legal action.

All we have here is a managerial problem. Happens every day in lots of company's. It's a people thing. Get by the obstructionist and all of a sudden the dam breaks and water flows.

nojoke

There's been an awful lot of screaming from the bleachers going on over this issue...:sour:
Why doesn't one of the offended parties simply start compiling a list of names, addresses and V.I.N.s of affected bikes, and compose a letter to BRP concerning it? One letter with a couple of hundred peoples' contact info might just jog them into looking a bit deeper into this.

Class action lawsuit?

That's just about the silliest thing I've seen on this board.
And since I have personally posted a HUGE percentage of the Top Silliest Things on here I am qualified as an expert.

Get in line Roger. You may be the silliest, but I'm the mostest silliest. Anyone heard of Caveat Emptor?

It maybe silliest thing u seen on this post. But this a problem
an BRP is not doing nothing about it. So if you have a better solution beside
buying spyderpops say it don't be the crap in the basket. BRP should STEP UP.
