Tires

Jeriatric

Thinks out loud
Knowing many people run a tire of their choosing. I remembered reading this.

BRP says to ONLY USE their tire, stating that the BRP recommended tire has been specifically designed for the Roadster. But, in the warning notice they seem to leave the door open to (tire other) when they refer to recommended tire type.

Are those just low clouds.....or is it fog?

...........................

From the OM

The tires have been specifically designed for the Spyder roadster. Use only the BRP recommended tires, which can be ordered only from an authorized Can-Am roadster dealer.

Tire Registration Form
In the event of a tire recall,we can only contact you if we have your name and address. As a vehicle manufacturer, BRP keeps a record of the Tire Identification Number (TIN) associated with the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)(see VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION) andits current owner information. If you replace any tire on your vehicle, a "Tire Registration Form" must be completed and sent to the tire manufacturer consumer service group. The “Tire Registration Form” is available at an authorized Can-Am roadster dealer.

! Warning
Tires that are not the recommended type, damaged, worn down below the minimum tread wear limit indicator or not properly inflated can cause loss of control. New tires will not operate at their maximum efficiency until their break-in is completed. Braking, steering and VSS performance may be reduced, so use extra caution. Tires take about 300km (200mi) of riding with frequent braking to break-in. For riding with infrequent braking, allow extra time to break-in the tires.

The lawyers call this CYA.......just in case they get sued.......Mike......

I run a Kumho on the back of mine. Every time I get service my dealer puts a little note at the bottom of the work order that I have a different tire brand and that I should only use a Kenda. I don't believe I am risking life or limb by using a different tire than recommended but I will say that nanny doesn't like it. She coughs a lot more with the Kumho than it did with the Kenda.

Unless I get huge amounts of extra milage out of the Kumho I think I will switch back to the Kenda on my next tire change.

Guess a person can read what they've said and read into it, or or for that matter discount what they care to but, what I read says they are monitoring whether or not a person is running their recommended tire or not. Could have warranty implications, and it could be as posted here. CYA Who really knows. Not me :coffee:

Well my Falken ZE 912 is working great! No issues with Nanny; it handles and rides well, and seems to be wearing like iron! :2thumbs:

Life has warranty implications. I don't ride to protect the warranty, I have the warranty to protect the ride.

If I put a tire on that has better wear, better dry traction, better wet traction and greater safety (4 ply tread vs. 2 ply tread) and otherwise meets BRP's minimum requirements, then they have to prove that it was the tire that caused the damage.

Some dealerships throw down the (It's not stock!:yikes: Danger! Will Robinson:yikes:) card every time you get a bolt turned. Why? Because it is very effective.

:agree: They're probably NOT slapping the Kenda on because it's the best tire; they were just the company that offered BRP the best price on the bulk purchase of the tires!

It's all up to the individual. Kinda like the bushing grease we all discussed not long ago. I asked a question about using other than BRP and was quickly told by someone(not you) to stay with BRP's. Then I stumbled across a post by that very same person where they had abandoned BRP's in the past and used Mobil synthetic. Sometimes it can be very hard to open something up for discussion when you know instead of discussing it - you're just going to take flack. Can't learn much that way. Can we.

This place is just like anyplace else; Everybody in here just KNOWS that they're right and everyboey else is full of it... :gaah:
But I can guarantee that if you take it all in with a grain of salt; your tequila will taste much better! :roflblack:

Exactly, it's all business. Give us a bulk price and we'll word the warranty to steer buyers back to you for purchasing new tires.

But, tequila makes your clothes fall off :roflblack:

If Bob's clothes are falling off I am not coming to the party. Case Closed, Tires or not, BRP or not, naked Bob = No Tito nojoke

:yikes: :roflblack: I can pretty much guarantee that the only way that you'd see me unclothed would be to ge my Mom drunk and have her pull out the baby picture crap!
You're safe Tito; the party's back on!:ohyea::yes:

RE: Tires: My dealer will not install anything other than the BRP approved tires. Since I am not mechanical, I am stuck with that.

I have had pretty good results with tires on all my :spyder2:'s though. I usually get about 15,000 out of the rear tires and 15,000 + on the front tires.

I am scheduled to get new front tires for my 2010 RT on Tuesday. I have over 25,000 miles on the original front tires.

I replaced the OEM at 11,000 miles with a BFG G-Force and really like it, but BFG has discontinued the 225/50/15, so my next tire will be a Falken. From the looks of the BFG at almost 14,000 miles of wear, I will probably get almost 20,000 out of it, maybe more. Do I worry about warranty? Not really, it's not the engine, it's the TIRE!

COUGHING

The coughing is not from the different tire.....it's something else.......Mike...

"best" is a relative term..Best for longevity? Best for traction,? Best for handling? Best for programing with the VSS? I personally think that the Kenda Tire is clearly different than the others (mostly because of the two ply sidewall, giving more "roll"). Add to that, BRP is not gouging us with the price of tires that the Spyder is engineered to use. Maybe Kenda was the only manufacturer who would spec a product for them. Some of the "Big guys" would probably balk at them for asking, especially when they were just startin gthe line in 2008 with a limited quantity.

I guess you can figure out that for less than $200 on the rear and under $100 each for the front, I'll buy the OEM. Tires are the only part of the Spyder nthat keep me connected to the road.

of course this is just my opinion, we are all free to do what we want. It's your choice, only MY opinion
