• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Think it's safe?

last night while checking my oil I somehow cross threaded the dipstick. Being made out of plastic, it was way to easy to do.

I can get the old one back in fairly tight but it's clearly cattawampus. Probably 1/2 the threads on one side are still visible. I ran the engine sitting still for a few minutes and didn't see any leakage, and it looks tight enough that nothing should get inside. Wouldn't want to run it thru a car wash or heavy rain, but short of that it looks ok.

I've got one on order (thank you Gary), but wanted to know if it's ok to ride. I'm in no way a gear head, so forgive me if it sounds like a dumb question. Just want to get some opinions on how advisable it is to run.

My dip stick was already cross threaded when I brought it home. Was a dealer demo for some time with 350 miles. I played with it for some time and got it to go back in straight untill next time its removed. I will buy a few extra one's when I take it in for late 600 mile check up. J W Miller

You should have no problem riding until your new one comes in. If it is so crooked that the O-ring doesn't seal well, I would try not to ride in a heavy rain, but I have never seen any signs of water collecting on the oil tank...just dust. You may get a little leakage from slop, but you can wipe that up. If the dipstick is loose, you may want to tape it down temporarily,

In my circles that's just called "Pulling a Bob" after some of my many faux- pas... (Famous for my miscues...)
Is it standard size cap that maybe something out of a well-stocked hardware store could temporarily seal up? You can always make a gasket out of something like an inner tube to put between it and the cases...

Thanks for the replies, makes me feel more comfortable about riding it as it is.

I had not thought of using an inner tube or something like that, think I'll hit the store early tomorrow and see what may be available. If nothing else, I have duct tape, doesn't that fix just about anything? ;)

The most intelligent people in the world are southpaw's!!

I gotta get you in the same room with my wife's southpaw sister!:yikes: You don't have to be near her..you can hear her across a crowded auditorium . (I know..I know..she's the exception, not the rule)

I noticed that putting the o ring on the dipstick instead of the oil tank makes it easier to screw it in. I had bugger of a time with the ring on the tank itself.
