• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Things are Falling Apart

Only have 13200 miles on my 2011 RT and things are going south fast. Had a full service at 12000 miles including a new rear tire and rotation of front tires. On a nice ride yesterday when everything seem to happen at once. In addition to getting a "Limp Home" message on my display, the bike started to have problems automatically downshifting and even refused to downshift when I manually tried on numerous occasions. And then the bike would just die. Not ideal when riding on the freeway.
Any ideas of what might have happened would be appreciated. Dennis

There is list of potential issues. Besides improper oil level affecting shifting; vacuum hoses seem to be a component dealers do not check when servicing. They become brittle and crack due to heat within a fairly short time. Any leaks in those and you'll have shifting problems with the SE5 and it can make the engine die.

The shifting sensor has been known to go bad also on these units also; although this may not be your problem. There really is not anything to look for in advance with the sensor; it just simply begins giving you trouble.

Dirt and dust also can play havoc on the these units; particularly the electrical sensors and connections. Cleaning under the tupperware is recommended once in a while and checking connections (to include the battery, fuses and etc) -- especially for those in dusty areas of the country.

Again, you need to have the dealer look it over, but be sure to mention a few of these items. Just a few ideas to toss around. Hope you find the problem.

More info..!!

the shifting has been seen after services from over/under filling oil. Could be other mentioned above but things were fine going in. Now things messed with at services usually are the culprits. As for the limp mode, codes are a great help but also other warning lights and scrolled messages. If related to the shifting then we are back to the oil, gear position sensors, actuators and paddle shifter...start with the oil and do the key walk....
