The pesky "heavy trunk lid"...another repair idea

So, my mind got to racing about a better solution for the trunk lid being heavy now that the luggage rack is on. I tried a couple things on my own, to no avail, then I tried Finless' extra spring idea, with some success.....but I still wasn't satisfied with a cobble. So, I came up with a brainfart of my own after looking hings over with the seat back off. Then it dawned on me, why not just simply raise the strut up? DUH!! So that is precisely what I did. In doing this, it now opens the lid a bit farther toward vertical, and it now uses a "stronger" portion of the cylinder's travel to hold the lid up. All I did was take out the bottom pin, and drilled a hole 3/4" higher on the plastic bracket. Be sure not to go anymore than 3/4" though, otehrwise the cylinder will completely bottom out and bend other stuff in there. I'll try to attach some pics. Sorry for the horizontal pics...imagine left is "up" in the last 3. Th first pic is pretty good, with the lid up. The last pic shows the cylinder nearly completely bottomed out with the lid closed.

I put a second gas shock on, now it holds the rack with a bag and supplies up easily.

:congrats: Glad it works.:thumbup: Not having a RT myself I can only guess at the frustration this must cause, rather surprised someone hasn't incorporated a rod that folds away like on the older car hoods :dontknow: My redneck way of thinking , I'd prolly just have a dowel cut to length & keep it stowed, I'd could get fancy & duct tape a string hinge to it.(keep it from falling out) :roflblack::roflblack:
