• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Just wanted to give some random thoughts on a 500 mile or so trip, The wife and I took this weekend.
I don't post on here very much. I do read the post everyday. I have gotten a lot of good help from forum members.
I don’t know any of you personally. I was not able to attend the rally in Chicago, but you all have been very helpful answering questions.

Thanks:

I just want to thank Lamoster for all your great insight and a great web site. Also please tell your sons Thank You for there service to this great country. Its because of them we can do what we do.
Nancystoy,Ronsam thanks so much in helping me out on getting my trailer wiring setup.

Random Thoughts:

OK , Now for our trip. We left on Friday afternoon. Was about 85 degrees out. Spyder ran flawless. Ran the back roads. Went over to Eastern Iowa to the Mississippi river. I live in central Iowa. Spent the night. Oh by the way Gas mileage ran right around 31.2.
Got up and was planning on heading back with a stop at the Amman Colonies. Ate breakfast and jumped on the spyder, got about 20 miles out of town went around a pretty sharp curve got going straight again. that’s when the bike went into limp mode.
I have read about this on the forums. Bad thoughts started going through my mind. Got pulled over and shut her down. The couple we where traveling with came up beside. They ride a Goldwing. 'Trying to convert them.' Got the ribbing of what's the problem with the spyder. Should of bought a Goldwing.
Let her sit about 5 minutes and restarted her back up. Limp mode was gone. During this time I checked the oil level and it was fine. Not sure what made it go into limp mode. I will be getting a hold of my dealer on Tuesday and seeing if they want to check it out.
Continued on to The Amman's. It was going to be a hot one today 96 degrees with heat index of 110. Got to the Amman's around 10:30. Looked around then ate lunch. The Spyder had ran fine all the way no more problems.
Left the Amman's around 2 p.m. And headed home. Spyder ran great. It was hot 96 degrees but nothing we couldn't handle. I forgot to say that I have removed the two splash guards under the right and left side of the engine. I saw on here someone had said that it helped to dissipate the engine heat. I think it was a great idea. Working for me. Did not feel all that heat coming up from the engine. Made it home and the limp mode has never came back on. Not sure why it did it but just glad it has not came back.

Wishes:

Would like to see a windshield vent for those really hot days. Would also like passenger armrest. I think it would make the ride for the wife a lot better.
Sorry for such a long post.

Mowerman.

Thanks for the write up; sound like you had a great trip. . . . that's what it's all about

Could you be more specific about the two splash guards you removed?
Maybe a pic? :helpsmilie:

Since this appear in the RT thread, I'm assuming this fix was on your RT. We're not having so much of the heat problems on our RT but we sure do experience the 'blow torch' effect on the RS when the fan comes on at 5 bars. Still looking for relief ...

Cat,
I will try and get some pictures tommorrow. The temp indicator never got above 3 or 4 bars on our trip. Still have the 'blowtorch' effect just not as bad.

Hi Mowerman, If you ever take a ride to this part of the state, give me a heads up. Cowtown at Cuba, MO will be having a rally next spring, that is well worth attending. If you want to attend one this Sept, do the "Spyders in the Smokies" at Gatlinburg, TN. http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20946 and the Lamonster BBQ. WOW! dont get any better than this. :2thumbs:
Looking forward to more post from you.

I can't believe the difference after you put the air-dam on...I was running 4-5 bars on the heat guage before I installed it...now 2-3 consistantly.
