There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. On my one year anniversary of this mishap we had turkey for dinner! :bbq:This is not the bird I hit last year, it didn't make it.

My friends like to send me pictures like the one below to remind me...

Turkey & Coke 2.JPG

Did anyone reading that title think this was about a collision with a wild turkey, you would be correct. We were riding 2-up on the way to work last Thur when Lynn (driver) told me there were turkeys next to the road on I-71 (65 mph). There was too much traffic to manuever away from them. I saw the turkey on the ground, but by then we were next to them and one had taken flight. I completely missed the turkey in flight. Well, Lynn was able to duck when that one hit the windshield, but I had no such luck. I was completely blindsided by it when it hit me full in the head and shoulder. It broke the shield off my full face helmet and destroyed the inside of the helmet, actually my head destroyed the inside of my helmet. Picture attached, I really am trying to smile:roflblack:

So, fractured maxilla sinus bone $1000, replacement helmet $200, one very dead 15 lb :cus: wild turkey and me still able to tell this story... priceless.

Now for my soap box....There is no doubt in my mind that the stability of the Spyder and my HELMET saved my life....so please if you wear a helmet don't ever stop and if you don't, please reconsider.:lecturef_smilie:

First of all, glad you are both OK. Sorry about your injuries, I almost hit a wild turkey myself two weeks ago, fortunately I avoided a collision. I kept thinking as I was approaching him that he would fly off before I reached him but at the last second he began to run and by the time I was on him he lifted off and barely escaped. Reading your story makes me realize how lucky I am. Stupid birds.:agree:

Good thing you had the backrest behind you!! That had to be one heck of a blow to the head! You could have been knocked clean off without something behind you for support.

You girlz were lucky you were on the Spyder and not on two wheels. That bird coming over the windshield must have been some shock.

Hope you aren't hurt too badly. You can always get a new helmet.

When are you cooking up the turkey?? :doorag:

So glad you are safe and sound. We have a lot of turkeys at our place too. I think you are right, the Spyder and your helmet definitely saved your life. You may have one heck of a headache tomorrow. Watch yourself. Glad you are still riding.

I am also very glad to hear the gear worked well. I wish you the best for a rapid recovery. I have been hit in the helmet by a small bird at 70, and can't imagine what the impact from the turkey would feel like. :yikes:

Good luck with dinner

:pray:OMG!!! Teddy & I are SO glad that your alive & well enough to tell your tale:bowdown:

OUCH!!!!!!!:yikes::yikes: I am glad that you both are OK. You are also correct WEAR A GOOD PROTECTIVE HELMET.

Glad you were not injured more seriously. I agree with your statement about the helmets...110%! I will add, as illustrated by your experience, that if you wear a full face helmet, ride with the visor down, and that goes double for the chin bar on a flip-front. Thanks for driving the point home. Heal fast.

Thanks for relating your story!! Glad to know you are ok!:2thumbs:

Now... with the joke... Freezing the turkey for Thanksgiving?:joke:

Thankful to hear you're okay and that your injuries were not any worse than they are.
I couldn't agree with you more . . . gear makes the difference.
Several times (especially when it's 100+ degrees) I've been tempted to reconsider my position
of ATGATT (all the gear all the time) and then I hear a report like yours.
It's just not worth the risk.

Keep us posted on your healing progress. Ryde safe and watch out for those turkeys!

I was in a RV park in Idaho a few years ago when a motor home came with a turkey stuck in the passenger windshield. They had hit it about 30 miles down the road and decided to come on in rather than remove it. They are stupid but can do some real damage.:gaah:

Glad to hear you are kind of okay. sounds like it could have been a lot worse.
I agree on the gear. I teach a teen age driving class and one of the classes is sharing the road with Motorcyles, bikes and Semi trucks. I get a lot of you didn't wear safety gear back when you were young. Then I show the overhead of me wearing a "state of the ART" Pudding bowl helmet. 1958 on Eglin AFB, FLA on nice new BSA.

Forgive me... Before I clicked on the link I started laughing... Sometimes the freak things that are one in a million and odd do that to me. Your title made me assume the obvious, but then I read you had been hurt.

I know how serious this had to be and I'm glad you are ok.

Glad you're OK after the impact, hopefully no need for a sinus reconstruction surgery.
PS: The hen should make a delicious soup...

Wow that must have been horrible. I'm glad you are both okay. I have a fear of birds especially huge ugly ones (and bats) if I would have hit the turkey it would take months of therapy just to get me out of the house.

One thing to remember with turkey is that they don't migrate so if you see them in one spot you will likely see them there again.

Stable Fracture

Glad you're OK after the impact, hopefully no need for a sinus reconstruction surgery.
PS: The hen should make a delicious soup...

No reconstruction required, it's a stable fracture which should heal without issue in a few months. I can even start riding again in a week or two.

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes....and it's ok to laugh we have been laughing about it since it happened. They say laughters the best medicine and in this case I agree!

Thanks again,

Tina ( Turkey Slayer :doorag:)

Glad you weren't more seriously hurt. Good thing you didn't get knocked off!

Ride safe! ATGATT
