Stupid Turn Signals

I don't get why BRP didn't make the switch like a car's stalk so the switch clicks either left or right and stays there unit you either turn or your just click it back to center. Heck, I'd kill to have that dumb little nub be able to be pushed down to cancel the turn signal (like setting the cruise) rather than being depressed in. If BRP just came out with a new cluster where you simply push downward on the nub to turn off my blinkers, I'd pay for it. Pushing down seems like such a simple and elegant solution.

Of course, my wife being my BETTER half, works it no problem. I guess I need a new thumb because I have a helluva time especially with gloves on :banghead:

Dear BRP, please let me push downward to cancel my signal. I don't like feeling like I don't want to use my signals because they are such a PITA to turn off.

When you need to cancel the turn signal manually, just hold the button for at least a second and it will cancel every time. Give it a try and see what you think.

Man its a real crap shoot almost every time I use it . I don't know if its going to cancel or turn the other signal on .

You must have a RT. The one on the GS/RS works just fine. You may have to trade yours in. :joke:

I think it's my gloved hand. I've read previous threads about the pressing it for one second. I think I'm letting it off at an angle. The real factory fix could be insanely easy. Just let me push it down. Just a wee bit :dontknow:

Or, have a short time-out of a few seconds, or a lane-change feature vs a full turn, or a quick & sure way to make sure the signals are -not- on without looking down.... Every car I have driven in the last 10 yrs has at least one of these features... why does'nt BRP understand ?

I have the same problem, turns the other one on. Holding down works IF you can push it streight in. If the button was not so tall it would be easier to push in without moving it to the side like a joy stick. :dontknow:

:agree: I'm not trading in my RT but I had a 2012 RSS loaner last month and I couldn't believe how perfectly the turn signal switch worked. It is a switch that has a totally different feel to it with very specific points for left right and canceling. BRP has figured it out but I just don't understand why they havent offered a fix to RT owners especially with the amount of dissatisfaction that's been published.

I've noticed the RT turn signal is a bit more finicky about the cancellation, but I hardly think this is the big safety issue that many of stated it is. The signals WILL turn off on their own after a period of time.

As far as pressing the turn signal twice, or holding and having it cancel..... doesn't work on mine.:dontknow:

The turnsignal switch takes a bit of getting used to; but if I can get it figured out, anybody in here can! :thumbup:

He turned it off or possibly it auto canceled - RT has some 30 second feature that will cancel it if you are driving straight and it remains signaling.

I have to admit when I read these posts about the turn signal, I wonder if my 2010 RT came from another planet, has a better turn signal switch or heaven forbid, it's a female thing! LOL...seriously though, I've had my RT since April 2010 and I can't remember having a problem with the turn signals other than sometimes the turn isn't tight enough and they don't turn off. I push the switch in, milliseconds holding it, let go and never had a problem with it. I do agree with the given design there can be issues based on the size of the hand. I don't know how many times I've hit the horn switch but I guess that's a different problem. pps: I do agree that BRP could handle these signal switches a bit better since they do seem to be improved on the sportsters.

Over a year later with nearly 17K on my RT I still haven't got it figured out. Sometimes the push/hold works, sometimes the push twice works, more often it will switch the right sig to the left sig. With over 60 years on 2 wheelers, I've NEVER encountered a turn sig like this. Just shouldn't be such a crappy switch on these high priced machines. Good grief, call Honda, Suzuki, or Yamaha, and ask who their vendors are!

Has anyone opened up the switch assembly to see if its possible to change out that onery thing with one salvaged from a Japanese bike?

I think that BRP's electrical system speaks a language of its own... :shocked: I'd be guessing, but there's probably no way for a mere mortal to take that switch out and replace with one that contains different DNA... :gaah:

Same here plus I can't be certain that my left signal will activate when flipping the switch. One shouldn't have to look at the instrument panel to know that his signal is operating. I'm on my third switch pod!

It took me about two weeks to get used to the turn signal.. That being said, another easy fix could be to add a "channel" or mechanical limiters when the switch is pressed. That way it only goes to the cancellation position when pressed in, and can't be accidentally pushed left or right during the release.
