• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Stuck in 4th - 2013 RT Limited (SE5)

Was riding home Tuesday and went to downshift due to slowing traffic and the Spyder sounded like it tried to downshift and then surged but the indicator would stay at 4.

Oil changed in late June, has about 10700 miles on it.

I searched the forum, found lots to check, like oil etc however nothing obvious.

So I have confirmed oil is present and not looking funny in any way.
I took the key out as I always do and it sat over night. Started it with my foot on the brake, it started without any problem, however the indicator continued to say 4. I tried to see if it would go into reverse no luck, so I shut it back down.

I do believe the dealer needs to see it, challenge will be getting it there especially if it won't come out of 4th, now I found the directions for trying to manually shift it into N which I have not tried as of yet, haven't had the time.

Is there anything I have overlooked before I attempt to put it in N and trailer it down?

Thanks in advance.

.

The shift lever has come off. Located in front of your left foot peg or board, under the bottom side tupperware.

Agree..!!

:agree: hopefully true and not stripped out. Try the manual reset to neutral, when you do you will see if the arm is off or the pinch bolt loose. Let us know what you find. :gaah:

:agree: It's not a tough thing to find; and Billy has already given you a good idea of where to look.

Good Luck; please let us know how this works out!

They are correct, had same issue last year, riding out west. Be careful when putting shifter back on,not to strip it.Check the groves on the spindle for any ressidoo. Clean with wire brush, before putting link back on.I didn't do that and it came back off after a few hundred miles! Had to use blue locktite to keep it on ,till I got to dealer.

Thanks

Well I opened the garage up and looked under and sure enough, a shift level is hanging there. I found the spindle and at least the teeth on it feel good, nothing obvious by feel ground up or smooth, so I am going with it just came off. It is obvious how to put it on in general, but are there any positions I need to worry about in order to get everything lined up or will it magically align once it is restarted and moves to N? I guess the question I need to ask is do I need to manually put it in N before reattaching and then be good?

I did see a reference to the shift lever on Spyder Codes but I interpreted more of the transmission got into a funk and need to be knocked around.

Thanks to all who responded.

It should be lined up already so don't try and force it to align. Once it is on tighten the pinch bolt so it does not slide on the shaft anymore. Start it up and it will shift to neutral on it's own.

Believe resolved

How the linkage fell off is unknown, I was not able to put it back on without taking the screw out. What I didn't know the first time was that you needed to pull the linkage so that the arm would be about 90 degrees when reattached. I kind figured this out when I went to downshift it and it wouldn't move. Originally got an E and U1201 (I think that was the code), once I was able to get the linkage back on, took the key away, it now comes up in Neutral and no error codes, it at least acted like it would shift into first to Neutral to reverse so today I will take it for a test run.

Thanks to all that replied.

I've had that stupid thing fall off on me several times. How it does it I don't know. There's a bolt that slides through a groove on the shaft before threading into the other side. It used to take me 20 minutes to fix removing the panels to make sure its lined up properly. There's a little dot on the side that must be centered. It gets VERY HOT up there too not to mention the asphalt and cement on a hot summer day alongside a busy I-10 Fwy. I found only ONE cure all fix for it: a six inch bungee cord wrapped once around it to a hole on the bottom of the frame. My mechanic recently took the arm off while my bike was having "The Procedure" done and doctored it so it can clamp better. I asked if he put my bungee back on. He said he did. So the lack of a penny bungee can keep a $30K machine from shifting. Amazing. I keep a supply of bungees on my bike at all times. Little suckers can come in handy sometimes.
