• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Stopping people from messing with your spyder

I've always wanted to say "Sure you can sit on my Spyder but first give me the keys to your car so I have something to sit on too"

Nobody tries to sit on my Harley!
Simply yell"Stop, Thief!", and detain the criminal until the police arrive. Then press charges on grand theft auto. If you found a person in your car, behind the wheel, you would think they were stealing your car. Same logic applies! Trying the switch, pushing the buttons - felony in progress! Call911!
just foolin'
shoot 'em!

I agree with 3 wheel addict, a Half cover works the best. especially if you are going to be away from your bike for a couple of hours. People wont attempt to remove the cover to look at the bike they will just look at it while they walk by. I have personally seen them do that. Too much effort for them to remove the cover they just look at the spyder and keep walking by. The best part is that the cover keeps the seat from getting too hot from the Florida sun and if it rains while you are away from the bike it keeps it dry, plus it is light weight and can be folded and stored in your saddlebag or frunk.

I had a Gorilla 8007 installed on it, but sadly even at it's highest sensitivity setting it doesn't really work well. I can sit on it and rock back and forth and sometimes nothing happens, but if I open and close the rear truck or saddlebags it will usually go off. Disappointing, to say the least.

While I LIKE those signs; my concern about them, would be that they might provoke a miscreant to "take action" against the :cus: that doesn't want anybody on their bike...

I went with the SPY5000m alarm. They can be had for new on Ebay for under $100.
Does everything the expensive Scorpio does. Includes 2 remotes that are 2 way.
Make sure you get the one with the proximity sensor as not all are sold with it!

I have had it installed now for 5 months and it works great.
Installation was pretty easy and I only had to tap into 3 wires on the harness near the battery (2011 RTS), running lights (or switched 12V), signal lights (left and right). Power went right to the battery as the harness for the alarm comes with a in line fuse.
I had it installed in about 20 minutes.
Hardest part (because I wanted to) is there is a LED that shows the alarm is armed, etc.
I ran that up to the front in between the 4 switches on the switch panel. Getting to that area was not fun until I figured out how :)

Once again I will make an offer for locals in my area. If you want me to install one for you, I will do it for nothing.
You buy it and we will setup a time!
BUT the catch is, you have to let me trace out your entertainment harness on the right side of the Spyder :)

That looks to be the upgraded version of the Trunk Monkey, The Trunk Lamonster. It looks like it has been modified to work in the trailer though. I would be a little nervous that both the trailer and the product warranty would be void after such a modification.
You are correct. This is the prototype of the new,"Trunk-Monster" :yikes:

Thanks for the info....does it alarm when someone touches or vibrates that bike? Also, when I read the description, it said "optional microwave sensor".. Did you add this sensor? If so, that's for perimeter protection, right? Any clarifications would be appreciated! Thanks.....BTW, sometimes I wish I was a "sparky" electrical person vs. being a retired Mechanical Engineer...oh well.....LOL.

Yes it has vibration and movement detector built in. How sensitive that is depends on where you mount it. I mounted mine in the battery area (again 2011 RTS so that's the left side under the passenger grip). I can actually get on the bike without triggering it if I am "smooth" about it. It made for a 2 wheeler that you would move a lot to trigger the vibration detector. But it does work. For instance slamming the trunk will set it off.

Yes the Microwave Detector is the "proximity" sensor I mentioned. Again if you buy one make sure it comes with it! I got mine for $99 on Ebay WITH the detector. Watch out for sellers that don't state either way. Chances are it does not come with it.

I mounted the sensor under the seat just behind the gas filler. The idea is to have it sense when someone is in the "Y" area either looking over the dash or about to climb in the seat. It works! I had it happen at a grocery store. As I was walking out this dude had just walked "in the Y" and was looking like he was about to get on it when it gave him the first warning chirp. He backed off. Had he stayed the alarm then would have gone off fully. The remote in my pocket vibrated to warn me :)

This is the guy I ordered from on Ebay. He has a large feedback amount and was perfect from order to ship.

FYI I see he is now selling it for $89! $10 cheaper than I paid.

Great! Thank you for the additional info...very helpful!! I'll be looking into an alarm....still gathering data....thanks again.

FYI for the remote control antenna, I ran that up the passenger backrest and mounted it to the top area under the truck lid (where the 2 screws are to remove the passenger backrest). This gets it high in the air and away from metal stuff and thus the best reception for greater distance of the remote.

But remote start of both of these is worthless due to the can buss and the way the key work (with a chip).
But I am sure you could get the remote cut off working if you wanted to. I did not hook those up.

I have looked at the Spy alarm. I just makes me nervous that they don't have an actual website anywhere for it. Seems more fly by night than I like. Most of the reviews have been good for them though and they are less costly than the Scorpio... I'm still up in the air between them I guess. And I need 2 of them... $400 total cost difference for me.
